Udupi : District Sand Extraction Boat Employees’’ Association will stage a dharna on 2^nd March,  in front of the Deputy Commissioner Office to protest against the harassment by officials for malfunctioning and failure of GPS equipment.

Addressing to media persons at Udupi Press Club on Tuesday, 27^th February, 2018, Manjayya Shetty leader of the association said that the sand extraction boat operators set up GPS equipment on their boats as per the specifications given by the district administration. But these GPS equipment not working properly and the idea has been failed due to not functioning properly that the equipment had in many cases failed to give correct location of the boats. But the boat operators had to pay for the violations due to the GPS equipment.

He said that we brought to the notice of the DC Priyanka Mary Francis and the Geology department. The Deputy Commissioner was formed to investigate the problems and it had found that the fault was with the equipment.

Later, the same problem was investigated by the experts and produced a contrary report to the committee and the district administration conveniently went with the second report. As we had been brought to the notice of Pramod Madhwaraj District in-charge minister in the matters, it has all connected with the committee headed by the DC and Pramod not interfere in DC’s administration in this regard, he said.

Shetty said that there were no problems in the neighbouring districts of Uttar Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, why was it that Udupi district administration coming up with a difficult rules were aimed to harasses the sand extractors who are difficult to live without any income. There were held recent rainds at several places to harass innocent sand boat extraction employees which main intention to harass the sand extractors.  

Shetty said that in order to draw the attention of the district administration to these problems. The sand extraction employees association members will stage a dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on 2^nd March and all permit holders with truck operators transporting sand would participate in the agitation.
