Widening Kemmannu Main Road - last stage of clearing buildings .....

Kemmannu, April 6,  2018: It’s 2 months since the Kemmannu road widening work began and we are in the last stage of clearing the portion of the buildings acquired for the purpose.

Inspite of initial fears, almost all shop owners and keepers have co-operated and the work is in the final stages of completion.

Out of the lengthiest stretch, Convent wall is already built and the work on the rebuilding of 700 feet long Church compound wall has begun.

On their part the contractor has started his work opening up additional portion and filling it with Jelli Mix.

Out of the total width of 30 feet acquired,  2 feet concrete drain will be built in one side of the road and the rest 28 feet is available for the road width and asplating.

The work is progressing well and expected to be completed by middle of May.

Kemmannu, March 2, 2018:
Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth affairs minister Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj visited Kemmannu to take firsthand look and inspect the progress of the road widening project. The minister was happy that good progress has been made within the last couple of weeks and assured his support.

The minister personally met few of the building owners who have whole heartedly supported by agreeing to dismantle part of their buildings. He was accompanied by local leaders Mrs. Veronica Cornelio, the driving force behind the project, Kemmannu Panchayat President Mrs. Fauzia Sadiq, Mr. Rahamathulla Thonse, Mr. Gururaj Bhat, Mrs. Sulochana, Ex Panchayat member and man of the moment Mr. Arun Fernandes, Civil work Contractor Mr. Archibald Menezes and other leaders and Panchayat Members.

The road widening work is progressing well with about 50% of the work completed so far. Majority of the shop owners have voluntarily agreed to prune the part of their building, however, a few are still undecided about their willingness. Local leaders are hopeful that ultimately all will co operate and the project will be completed within a couple of months.

Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj thanked Mrs. Jessy D’souza for willingly demolishing her compound wall and re-building by her own.

I am glad people have willingly demolished their wall and are willing to give up part of their property for road widening.

I will appreciate if Mr. Pramod Madwaraj organizes some resources from the Government to rebuild the Boundary wall ...

Keep up the good work. Someone in the comment below was blaming that Kemmannu will become a commercial place. What I see is a good road expansion project to ease the traffic. Good work should be always appreciated and not make it into an essay to shed your fake tears.

Due to the efforts of local leaders, it looks like mission possible.

Let the article remain as a front page article for sometimes as this is an sentimental issue coupled with joy of achievement.

So sad to see our village is turning to commercial place. I stayed in kemmannu in childhood. and all my childhood is spent seeing these buildings and shops. It was a part of me and my memories. now all are demolished.

Kemmannu will be a changed place. no more village atmosphere. Next time when i visit kemmannu i will miss all those shops and people.

Why like this ??? development should be done with the cultural value of a place in mind.

I think Mr. Norbert Olivera has raised a valid point about water sharing. Hope he will find the justice from the authorities.

Also for a thought - The Residents near main road who belong to Muduthonse grama can be included in Paduthonse ( May be till Mudalakatta..as 100% they make use of the main streets and facilities of Paduthonse/Kemmannu, just think and re-think..

I can see the main bottleneck is getting ease but what about hampankkatta 90 degree bend.hampankaata and bavikatta’s are two major bottlenecks on this road and the stretch between carmel school and kemmannu lower.

Thank you Mr. Thomas for your daily updates and to bringing the glimpses of hometown updates on our screens, its a different pleasure to watch growth of hometown sitting miles away.

We r staying at the border of moodthonse grama and we don’t have any facility given . Especially water facility. Even after MLA Pramod Madwaraj gave us the permission to use water from Paduthonse ,but Paduthonse panchayath is not ready to give us the water. Paduthonse people get all the facilities but moodthonse don’t.now they want land from moodthonse people to extend the road but they haven’t even bother to give us water facility. There’s no problem in cutting trees if they grow new ones ,but they don’t grow and spoil the environment also .

There is a different version on the stretch being taken for widening. One of my friends said that the stretch taken for widening is from Dr Devidas Bhat shop to river side. Then it’s a waste exercise.

Kemmannu Road should be widened atleast from Hampankatta turning to river. There should not be any disparities while taking developmental works. From Hampankatta to old post office building, there are very few buildings on both sides. So that not much damages. Only owners should part with few coconut trees.

From old post office building almost all buildings need to be demolished. And some compensation should be given to build new shops at the same place.Any developmental works attracts brickbats and bouquets. But looking at the future of Kemmannu, a small donation plays a big role.

Fully endorse Mr. Mahesh Gadiyaar’s views. Saving the environment along with development is very important for us and for our next generations.

Even in Kemmannu where we thought we were inhaling sea fresh air, no more the case. Air pollution, May be caused by Mega factories in Manglorean is affecting us too. Coconut tree leaves are coated with an tar like substance. Common cold and flu which used to cured in days pro-longs for months.

Yes as a citizen I will convey the message to the local leaders about green environment.

Development is good for any city, state or country. I could see lot of tree’s are being removed, which kept our surrounding and us healthy.

As part of this project we should keep count on the number of tree’s that would be removed, and replace each with at least 2 new plants on both sides of the road so that we will keep our environment safe.

We are already feeling the difference in the kemmannu weather. Planting new tree’s will at least try to maintain the balance in atmospheric changes due to development.

If possible we should use Solar panels for street lights .

Why not beneficiaries of this road pool some money and help to build the demolished walls.

When people donate so much money for religious places, why not help for road widening. Church, temple, social service association should come together and form kemmannu road widening committee.

I am sure local will help for this project. Even Kemmannu.com can take initiative to start this fund.
