District Administration gives rousing welcome to P Gururaja, Commonwealth Medal winner

Udupi : P Gururaja, Weightlifter from Kundapur who won the Silver medal in the men’s 56 kg final with a total lift of 249 kg at the Commonwealth Games held in Australia, received a rousing welcome by the Udupi district Administration on Thursday, 19th April, 2018.
Earlier, P Gururaja on behalf of District Administration, Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty, Deputy Director for Sports and Youth Empowerment warmly received at Mangalore International Airport and then he was taken in a special convoy of government cars to the Udupi Deputy Commissioner’s office at Manipal.
After reaching to DC office at Manipal, P Gururaja was warmly accorded a rousing welcome. Priyanka Mary Francis along with Shivanand Kapasi CEO Zilla Panchayat, Anuradha, Additional DC felicitated P Gururaja with a shawl, Mysuru Peta, Garland, fresh fruits and memento at the DC’s conference hall.
After felicitation, Gururaja said that I am very happy to won first medal for my country on the first day itself. I am very much excited to get grand welcome back home from the locals, friends and officials of various departments of the district. I am happy that everybody has supported me a lot in this journey. My next aim is to participate in the Asian Games and also win a medal in 2020 Olympics, he said.
Priyanka Mary Francis said that it is great pround moment for all. P Gururaj is a role model for all the children and sportsmen in Udupi district. He is Brand Ambassador for Election awareness in Udupi distirct.
Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty welcomed, proposed vote of thanks and compered the programme.
