Udupi : The 26th annual conference of AMIC (Asian Media Information and Communication Centre) will take place at the Fortune Inn Valley View, Manipal from June 7-9, 2018. The conference will be hosted by the School of Communication (SOC) Manipal, and will be held under the theme ‘Disturbing Asian Millennial: Some Creative Responses’.

Speaking to media persons on 5^th June, during the press meet,  Dr. Padmarani, Principal of SOC,Manipal said that the conference will be graced by nearly 300 delegates from 16 countries in the world. Mr. Crispin C. Maslog, Chair of the AMIC Board of Directors will be the chief guest. Prof. B.P.Sanjay, pro- Vice- Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, India will deliver the keynote address. Ramon R. Tuazon, the Secretary General of AMIC will offer the closing remarks. PengHwaAng, a Professor at Nanyang Technological University and Chair D’Honneur of the AMIC Board of Directors will be present on the occasion.

 Over the three days, a variety of topics will be discussed in various plenary sessions.The themes of the plenary sessions include, ‘UNESCO Emeritus Dialogue - Millennials’ Concept of Democracy: Freedom of Expression for All vs. Freedom of Expression for Themselves’, ‘AMIC Distinguished Forum - Mobile Internet Disruption’, ‘Exploration of the Methodological Innovations Required for Conducting Millennial Communication Research in Asia’, ‘UNESCO Report on World Trends in Freedom of Expression’ and ‘Media Development and Community Media and Skill Development’.

The discussions at these sessions will be led by panels of eminent guests, some of whom include AnirbanSarma, the National Programme Officer for Communication and Information at the UNESCO New Delhi Office; Swaraj Paul Barooah, Senior Programme Manager at The Centre for Internet and Society; CharuLata Singh, Dean of the Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication; MohdAzizuddin bin MohdSani, Director of Research and Innovation Management at the CenterUniversiti Utara Malaysia; and Binod C. Agrawal, Member of the AMIC Board of Directors and a Consultant at the Asia Research Center for Religion and Social Communication, India.

The Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) is an international, non-profit, non-government organization that serves as a regional research hub for media and communication issues.

Based in Manila, Philippines, it was established in 1971 to encourage ethical and social responsibility of the media to support democratic access and participation in media development and production. AMIC also works to provide opportunities for empowerment of disadvantaged sectors in the communication/media environments in developing countries in Asia.
