Udupi : The three stages of developmental works of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) like distribution of drinking water, drainage system and Garbage collection system discussed during the review meeting chaired by newly elected Udupi Legislative constituency MLA, Shri K. Raghupathy Bhat here on Wednesday, 20^th June, 2018.

The issue of bringing water from the Varahi in Bharatkal to Baje which about 36 km from here was dominated the developmental review meeting here.

The engineers of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation were presented briefly on the project of Varahi water bringing to the city. They explained that raw water will be pumped from Bharatkal and supplied through pipelines to a new 30 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Baje where supplied to the city.

They said that the pipelines would be laid one metre deep along the shoulders of the road from the starting point at Bharatkal to ending point Baje which will be pumped only during the four summer months.

It would take three years for complete implementation of the project and tenders had already been floated for it. There would be three packages to implementation that first package would focus on construction of jackwell at Bharatkal and laying of pipelines, second would be on construction of 30 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Baje and third would be on supply water from Baje to Udupi city through seven overhead tanks, they said.

K. Raghavendra, CMC Chief Engineer said that Rs. 295.61 crore would be spent on water supply including the Varahi water to Udupi project and Rs. 38.5 crore on underground drainage system including Manipal, Malpe and Santhekatte, Kallianpur.

The drainage system and garbage cleaning system also reviewed during the meeting. The electricity supply system, construction of three city bus stands at Udupi, Malpe and Manipal also reviewed during the meeting.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje President of CMC, Opposition leader Dr. M. A. Pai, Janardhan CMC Commissioner, Municipal Councillors, various departments officers and other were present during the review meeting.
