Udupi : Vanamahotsava at Nirmala English Medium School, Brahmavar was celebrated on 14th July 2018 together with Headmaster Fr. Joslie Francis D’silva PTA president Mr. Prabakar and the chief guest Mr Harmis Norohna the president of SAI at Malpe and the Jila Naghara Sabha Member Udupi.
Vanamahotsava is an annual tree planting festival in the month of July. During this festival thousand of trees are planted all over India. In1950, It was started by K.M Munshi, the union Minister for Agriculture and Food at all time. It was started to create awareness in the mind of the people for the conservation of forests and planting of saplings. Vanamahotsava is celebrated as a festival of life. In India it was started as a crusade to save mother earth.
People celebrate Vanamahotsava by planting trees or saplings in homes, offices, Schools, colleges etc. Awareness campaigns were held at various levels. In its original aim, every citizen of India is expected to plant a sapling in the vanamahotsava month. It needs to be understood trees are an effective way to prevent global warming and reduce pollution.
Stringing the need for the plantation, Mahatma Gandhi had once said, “What we are doing to the forest of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.
The best sayings about tree plantation are by Lacy Larcom, Which goes as, “He who plants a tree plants hopes”.
Forests play a vital role for a nation’s development, loss of forests and trees ruin the ecological balance of the country. It also weakens the efforts of pollution control. All there are harmful for us.
It is a well-known fact uneven distribution of forest results in soil-erosion, less rainfall, drought, and floods cause havoc with rainfall, climate, and agricultural production and health of people.etc. Experts are of the opinion that about 30% of a countries total land area must be under forests for healthy environment.
All the disadvantages of destruction of trees and forests can be balanced only with plantation of trees and adopting the process a forestation is being given high priority. Besides emphasis on a forestation, new plants are also being planted every year. The Vanamahotsava is a Programme of a forestation.
The Vanamahotsava celebration educates the awareness of planting trees among people and portrays the need of planting and tending of trees, as trees are one of the best ways to prevent global warming and reduce pollution.
I request everyone to keep all these points in your view. With the saying of Franklin D’Rooswelt “A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land. Purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people”.
Let us take a pledge with Nirmala English Medium School to protect our mother earth”.
