Udupi :  It is sad to know that Udupi district is ahead of highest drug related cases in the state. Earlier there were not crossing 50 cases, but now 80 cases were reported in relate to drug addiction cases in the district, said Chickmaglur district Superintendent of Police Annmalai.

Addressing to huge crowd of students at Ajjarkad Ground here on Friday, 14^th September which one of the part of awareness programme organized by Udupi district Police and Udupi district working journalists Association from August to September in Udupi district on the part of Walkathon from MGM College to Ajjarkad Grounds during valedictory programme, Annamalai said that when there is demand, it’s quite supply also be there. When demand decreases, the cases of supplying drugs have been also decreases. It is not possible to control completely only by police. But it is responsible to every person to join with the police to control the drug addicts, he said.

People may say that there are plenty of reasons to addict the drugs. But one of the most important reasons is depression. Illegal drug consumption is not the medicine for the depression. It is responsibility of teacher, Principals’ and parents to give valuable counseling with their children and student when their character has changed. The use of synthetic drugs is not the way to problems of drug user. Students should inform the police when supply or sale of drugs, he said.

Students are brand ambassador of avoiding drug mafia. It is sad to note that Manipal in the district is one of the drug centers in the state. There should need to make drug free Manipal in the district, he said.

Especially in South American countries like Peru, Chile and other. As per the Forbes magazine four successive years one of the richest person in the world who owns 77 planes, 13 submarines, 7 helicopters’ and many more large assets was the dealer and producer of illegal drugs. Even top investigating agencies to wind up this business in most of the South American countries. Only 2 mg drug will cost more than Rs. 25,000. One can become rich when he can do the illegal business of drugs. Students should inform the police in relate to the drug business, otherwise a seller can be one time millionaire, he said.

Annmalai when he was in Udupi district as SP, he was very popular with the students and called him as ‘Udupi Singam’. More than 2000 students of various colleges are took part in the walkathon marathon of 5 km. Large number of students were busy with Annamalai after the program to have the mobile clicks.

Laxman B. Nimbargi presided over the valedictory programme.  Raghupathy Bhat, local MLA, Dr. M. Mohan Alva of Alvas Educational Institutions were addressed the gatherings. Kumarachandra Additional SP, Sandesh Shetty and Deepak of Airtel Nagaraj Rao Convener of Press Club of Udupi and other were present on the dais.
