Udupi : Sahakara Bharati, Udupi distirct staged protest against the state government’s loan waiving policies at entrance of DC office, Manipal here on Tuesday, 18^th September, 2018.

Addressing to protesters’ Raviraj Hegde, State Vice President, Sahakara Bharati, Karnataka state, said that the Sahakari Bharati demanding waiver of all farm loans as promised by the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy during the election campaign. Kumaraswamy who holds the finance portfolio has announced Rs. 34,000 farm loans waiver as part of his party’s election commitment to the farmers. But the government made farmers with complications that government put several conditions prior to wavier scheme of farm loans, he said.

Raviraj Hegde said that the state government has failed correct procedures while waiving farm loan. The state government already gave order to Co-operative societies for the farm loan. But the government put forth some conditions on farm loan waive. Government told that if any deposits in Co-operative societies; the farm loan will be deducted from the deposits. The government would no right on deposit which deposited for minimum needs of the farmers like their children education, wedding, house repair, health of other purposes. It is against the farmers that the deposited money would be deducted as farm loan, he said.

Though Kumaraswamy on July 5 annouced waiver of farm loans worth Rs 34,000 crore in the state budget for fiscal year 2018-19, it is not full as it does not cover loans granted by nationalized banks. As per our estimates, the total amount of crop loan raised by farmers from across the state is about 1,26,000 crore, including interest over the years, he said.

Addressing to protesters, Yashpal Suvarna, President of Fishermen Traders’ Association said that what Kumaraswamy promised prior to the election, not fulfilled. The role of the Cooperative societies especially in Udupi district for the support of farmers has great. But the families of the government officials and officials of cooperative sector, farmers who have paid income tax for past three years and other ineligible farm loan recipients outside the purview of the loan waiver scheme, he said.

Harish Acharya, State Sahakari Sanghaton Pramuk, Rajesh Shetty Kundapura, Katpady Shankar Poojary, and Suman Sharan State Women Chief were spoke during the occasion.

Bola Sadashiva Hegde district president, Madhusoodan Nayak, Manjunath S K., Cherkadi Ashok Kumar Shetty and others were present. A memorandum was submitted to State government through the DC after the protest meet.
