Udupi : There are plenty of programmes in relate to awareness on alcohol free society. But the programme arranged by the Sri Dharmastala Gramabhivaraddi Yojene something extraordinary one, said Raghupathy Bhat, MLA.

Addressing a inaugural programme on the occasion of 150^th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhji and Convention of Alcohol free society on Tuesday, October 2, at Rajangana, Sri Krishna Math which was organized by Sri Dharmastala Gramabhivaraddi Yojane, Udupi, Akila Karnataka Janajagrathi Vedike, Belthangadi, Janajagrathi Vedike, Udupi Taluk along with Paryaya Palimar Math, Sri Krishna Temple here, Bhat said that Mahatma Gandhiji had thought about the alcohol free society in India and gave lot of awareness programmes to free from alcohol in the society. He had the vision for the future of the country.

He said alcoholism and the problems caused by these have been creating a seriously negative impact on the moral fabric of the nation. Mahatma Gandhiji has become all the more relevant to bring about a total change, he said.

Tuluva Bolli Sri Dayanand Katthalwar, Member Tulu Sahiyatya Academy was the resource person on the occasion.

Harish Shetty Cherkadi President of Janajagrathi Vedike Udupi presided over the programme. Sri Sri Vidyadeesha Theertha Swamiji blessed the occasion. Dinakar Babu ZP President, Udupi district, Additional SP Kumarachandra, K Mahaveera Ajri, Regional Director, SDGY, Udupi, Smt Nalini Pradeep Rao President, Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Devdas Hebbar, former State President, AKJV, Belthangadi, Rohith H Secretary, Project Officer, Taluk Janajagrathi Vedike, Udupi, Shivakumar Ambalpady, Janajagrathi Vedike, Udupi, Purushotham P K, Director, District Janajagrathi Vedike Udupi and Zonal Presidents were present on the dais.

B. Shivakumar welcomed the gatherings. Narayana Naik, Kodibettu and Ananda Poojary Kokkarne spoke about the effects on consumption of alcohol. Alcohol free achievers were honoured during the occasion.

Elocution competition winners Prajwal of TMA Pai School, Kallianpur, Adharsh of GPUC High School, Brahmavar and Spandana of GPUC High School, Brahmavara were felicitated on the occasion.

Earlier, the huge rally was organized from Catholic Centre, KM Marg to Rajangana, Sri Krishna Math with various tableaus on the rally to give awareness on alcohol free society. The rally was flagged off by Dinakar Shetty of Badagubettu Cooperative Bank, Udupi.
