Udupi : State level Table Tennis Tournament will be held at Milagres English School, Kallainpur near here from October 6 to October 8 for Primary and High School students which to be organized by Milagres English Medium School along with district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Educational departments.

In this historical background, Milagres English School Kallianpur organizes state level table tennis tournament for primary and high school boys as well as girls. Sports students from 34 districts, coaches and others total around 950 persons will be participated in the tournament, he said.

Addressing a press conference at Udupi Press Club on Wednesday, October 3, Very Rev Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur said that the table tennis state level tournament will be held first time in Udupi district along with Educational department. In the year 1979 under the Kum Teckla Periera leadership, the English medium school started with 26 students in a small class room by Very Rev Fr. L. D’Cruz. In the year 1981 the primary school started under leadership of Sr. Hildaguad and later on in the year 1988 Very Rev Fr. William Gonsalves started High School section under the leadership of Suryanaraya Ithal.

With the blessings of almighty God through Our Lady of Miracles, since then the school has going forward by lot of curricular and extracurricular activities as well. The school students represented state and national level tournaments and secured several awards in sports like Table Tennis, Shuttle Badminton, Volley Ball, Chess, Karate, Basketball and Athletics, he said.

The inauguration of State Table Tennis tournament will be inaugurated at 4.30 pm at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall, Kallianpur. Prior to the inaugural programme, grand procession to be started from Mount Rosary School campus, Santhekatte at 3.15pm, which to flag off by Janardhan Thonse, ZP member and Smt Pushpa Kotian, President of Kallianpur Gram Panchayat.

The state level tournament will be presided by Raghupathy Bhat local MLA . Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo will bless the occasion. Smt Dr. Jaimala, District I n-charge minister, Women & Child Development Minister and Minister for Kannada and Culture, Dinakar Babu President ZP and other all elected representatives from the district will be the guests of honors.

Abishek International Sportsman, Commanwealth Table Tennis Award winner will be special guest during the occasion.

Fr. Lawrence said that cultural programme will be held on October 7 from 4.30pm to 9.30pm at Milagres English Medium Campus. Kum Rencita D’Souza, Alumni and Actress in Konkanni Movies, Kum Gargi Shabarai, Alumni and Karnataka Youth Singer award winner and Sukratha Wagle, Big Bass (Kannada) are the guests of honor.

During the occasion Sangeethosava will be held by Prajoth D’Sa, Alumi and great singer, Short Yakshagana, felicitation for special achievers’, various programmes by Milagres Educational institutions students and special felicitation programme for achievers in Sports since 10 years will be held.

The valedictory programme will be held on October 8 at 3.30pm. Very Rev Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur will preside over the programme.

Pramod Madhwaraj, former Minister for Sports and Youth Empowerment, Government of Karnataka, Smt Priyanka Mary Francis Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district, Shivanand Kapasi CEO of ZP, Udupi district, Laxman Nimbargi Superintendent of Police, Udupi district and other will be present.
