Udupi : Ranga Mandira would be constructed in one acre of land at Adi Udupi. A theatre institute, Rangayana would be also established in the same place, said Jayamala, District in-charge Minister.

Briefing media persons about the proceedings in the trimonthly Karnataka Development Pogramme (KDP) meeting here on Wednesday, 3^rd October, she said that there were a lot of theatre artists and theatre lovers in the district. We have adequate funds and we would be provided for the construction of the Ranga Mandira in Udupi.

She said sand mining issues dominated in the KDP meeting. The sand would be available after October 15 as per the meeting held with chief minister. The price for the sand has fixed by the district administration for the non CRZ sand mining sand per unit. No price is fixed for CRZ areas sand in the district.

There are 2598 BPL ration card applications still in balance to issue. Within October 15, all balance applications would be cleared.

5 places to construct Dr Ambedkar Bhavan are identified. In order to provide basic facilities to migration workers, mobile anganawadi are needed and as per the availability of migration workers places, mobile anganawadi to be introduced, she said.

Jayamala said that it has been decided to put up fibre gates to vented dams in Udupi district. Even though there was no shortage of rain, rivers are dried up prior to rainy season ends. Where ever required, the panchayats PDO’s had been told to shut down the gates if the water level in rivulets and rivers was going down. But in some areas, farmers themselves had wanted gates to remain open as there was water overflow, she said.

As per the demand from Mahila Okkuta, the place will be identified and building would be constructed for Mahila Okkuta, she said.

On the revival of ailing Brahmavar Cooperative Sugar Factory, it has been decided to call a meeting of farmers and seek their opinion on cultivation of sugarcane in the district. It was after this meeting, that the next step could be contemplated, she said.

Asked if any disciplinary action would be taken against Congress workers and a municipal councilor who gheraoed her at the Congress Bhavan on Gandhi Jayanti day, Jayamala said she did not believe in politics of vendetta. She had full faith in Congress Workers as they worked with dedication. She said, “I will not say anything more on the issue.”

Replying to a query on instances of ‘ash rain’ reported last month in the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, deputy commissioner said that the district administration had got a report from NITK on the ‘ash rain’ last month and there was no mention of fly-ash content in the report. As per complaint had lodged directly to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, a scientist from the Union Ministry also visited the district recently. The scientist had also visited a power project plant in the district in connection to this and the report from scientist was awaited, Priyanka said.
