Udupi : Today we are giving most important role to academic education rather than physical education. But, when we would give importance to Physical education while academic education, then total education would be perfect, said Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese and President of Catholic Education Society of Udupi diocese.

In his address on the occasion of State level Table Tennis Tournament inauguration which organized by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Public Education Department, Joint Director’s Office Udupi district, Block Education Department office, Brahmavara and Milagres English Medium Schools, Kallianpur near here on Saturday, 6^th October at Milagres Tri Centenary Hall, Bishop said that on 1940, a American Woman called Wilma Rudolf lost her both the legs due to polio. But, because of her marvelous effort and interest, she won Summer Olympics’ in 1956 with three Gold medals! After that most of the Americans are role model to other sportsmen in the country that we can see witness more Olympics medals to that country. It shows that the interest, efforts, heart and mind towards the game in sport can possible in success of any kind of game, he said.

Earlier after the invocation prayer by Milagres English Schools’ students, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes SJ, Principal of Milagres English Schools welcomed the gatherings. Madhukar  S. District Physical Education director spoke keynote address and spoke about the procedures to qualify national level tournament and gave gratitude to Milagres English School officials and management for their tremendous support to conduct the game.

In his inaugural address, Raghupathy Bhat local MLA and also Vice President of State Badminton Association said that in future there would be era of Sports in the country. All state governments as well as Union government giving plenty of opportunities to sportsmen of the country. There are opportunities to the politicians without their efforts or homework; it would be their destiny to win in the political elections. But as a Sportsmen, there should lot of efforts and hard work needed to get the medals in the sports. There are various scopes to the sportsmen for their strong future due to their efforts in the school. Some universities offered sportsmen to give the degrees without academic subjects. Now era of good future changed for the sportsmen indeed.

He appreciated the management and school of Milagres English Medium Schools for organizing the state level Table Tennis Tournament and hence their contribution to show the talents of Udupi district students between other 34 districts teams of the state. Milagres Institutions brought name for the Udupi district, he said. 

Special invitee and guest of honor Abhishek, Award winner of Common Wealth Games in 2010 was felicitated during the occasion.

ZP Vice President Sheela K Shetty, Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Nalini Pradeep Rao, Pushpa Kotian President of Kallianpur Gram Panchayat and Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Udupi diocese spoke during the occasion.

Janardhan Thonse, member of ZP, Udupi district was presided over the inaugural programme and spoke his presiding address.

Sathish Shetty compered the programme. Sheshashayana Karinji DDPI, Bhujanga Shetty Taluk Physical Educational official, Udupi district Physical Teachers’ Association President Chandra Shekar Shetty, General Secretary Sudharshan Nayak, Chief Referee Ashwin, Milagres Parish Pastoral Council Secretary Felciana Lewis and others were present on the dais.

After the stage programme, the state level table tennis tournament was inaugurated by Abishek by pressing the button of water fountain.

Earlier prior to the inauguration huge rally by the participants of the game from 34 districts was held from Santhekatte junction to the location of the tournament at Milagres Tri Centenary Hall which was flagged off by DDPI Sheshashayana Karinji. During the rally along with school beautiful brass band students, tableau and various brass band and drums displayed during the rally. Under the efforts by Steevan Pinto, Vincent Mascarenhas and Vinay Shet, the host Milagres English Schools, Kallianpur going further more steps in to success.

Around 600 persons including students, coaches and parents are participating in the state level Table Tennis tournament.
