Udupi : The members of Franciscan Secular Tertiary Order (Third Order) of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur celebrated the feast of their Founder and Patron St. Francis Assisi on Sunday, 14^th October, 2018.

The feast began with thanksgiving mass for St Francis Assisi at 8 am mass concelebrated by Rev Fr. Arthur Menezes, Capuchin and Rector the Cathedral Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza.

In his homily Fr Arthur Menezes pointed out about the ‘Amar Jivith”, life forever. We all need to learn more about God and his will for us. Rightly understood, Simplicity of Life is part of loving and sharing of the material as well as the spiritual things of life. Francis of Assisi is one of the most cherished saints in the history of the church. But he lived and died eight centuries ago. Francis had a genius for seeing the face of Jesus Christ in everyone he met. He faced some of the biggest questions of his day and he took on the challenges of his time with humanity, love and joy.

The Holy Eucharistic celebration was animated by the members of the Tertiary Order including huge offerings, readings and choir.

During the weekly announcements by Assistant Parish Priest Rev Fr Canute Noronha was on behalf of Rector Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza extended greetings of the feast on behalf of clergy and faithful of the church.

After the mass brief get together of all members of Tertiary Order held at Priest’s meeting hall. The Rector of the Cathedral Very Rev Fr. Lawrence C D’Souza said that we celebrate the feast of St Francis Assisi who one of the most popular Saints for Christians as well as non-Christians in the world. St. Francis of Assisi has won the love and the admiration of so many generations by giving the Gospel and presenting poverty, chastity and strength of a radical loving and personal witness. He appreciated the work of Tertiary Order of the church since 80 long years. He extended his feast greetings to all the members.

The chief guest Rev Fr. Arthur Menezes Capuchin priest from Brahmavar and Dr. Nery Cornelio Vice president of Parish Pastoral Council spoke during the occasion. Sr. Mabel of Rose Convent spoke briefly in relate to St Francis Assisi.

Earlier, Stany Rodrigues President of the Order welcomed the gatherings. Zita Lewis teacher placed the report of the Tertiary Order of the church since one year. Jacintha Lewis delivered the vote of thanks. Lilly D’Sa teacher compered the programme. Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes SJ., Principal of Milagres English Medium Schools, Xavier Fernandes Coordinator of 18 Pastoral Commissions of the Cathedral and large number of Tertiary Order members of the church were present.
