Udupi : Karnataka State Health Department Contract Workers’ Association staged one day protest meet on call given by All India Health Department Contract Workers Association, New Delhi on Thursday, October 25 at Deputy Commissioner Office, Manipal near here.

Addressing to protestors, Manjunath President of KSHDCWA, Udupi unit president said that the state government playing with poor workers by not providing basic facilities to contract workers. In this department those who working as contract workers are more than permanent workers. The health department workers are working very hard with heavy risks and heavy burden of jobs. WE have various demands for our better livelihood. The contract workers have no job guarantee nor job safety. All contract workers should be made as permanent in their respective jobs in various health departments, he said.

The Supreme Court in 2016 judgment said that all contract workers should be made permanent. But health department not implemented the Supreme Court judgment. There should not be discrimination in wages and other normal facilities. It would be difficult to work with discrimination, without job security and standard service, he said.

He said that there should need to make strong public health system. The state government should increase 15% budget allocation to health department of the state and Union government should provide financial grant to the state for the purpose. All health department contract workers should provide job security up to retirement. Like Haryana model, comprehensive HR policy should be established in wages and other allowances, he said.

He said that it would be unfortunate that we are in indefinite agitation for our demands. We think that such condition especially in health department should not be developed. We demand to problems to be solved during the Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies and our problems would be solved, he said.

The memo handed over to Prime Minister of the country and Chief Minister of Karnataka through Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district.

Mahabalesh, Girish, Preetham B S., Saumashree, Vasanthi and other officials of the Union were present during the protest.
