Nirmala Thonse concludes Month long successful campaign against Plastic Products at Kemmannu Weekly Market.

Kemmannu, 25 October 2018: Non Governmental Organization, Nirmala Thonse formed with the intention of saving the nature and environment from pollution, carried out a successful month long awareness campaign against use of plastic carry bags and plastic products in general. The focal point of the campaign was the Kemmannu Weekly Market yard on Thursday. The campaign was carried out for 4 weeks and tried to educate the citizens about the impact of plastic carry bags on the environment.

Resource persons and environmental crusaders were invited, who spoke about the dangers posed by plastic products. Free Bio-degradable carry bags were distributed to the shoppers free of cost.

On the concluding day of Thursday, October 25th several Social Organizations joined the campaign. Kallianpur Rotary President Mr. Braan D Souza along with the Secretary and Members joined the movement. Lions Kallianpur President Mr. Jerome Lewis along with Lions Chairman Prof. Dr. Neri Cornelio lent their support by joining. Dr. Neri Cornelio, who also spoke on the occasion called the citizens to be more responsible and lend our support to save the environment. Bharat Nirman Volunteer and well known water conservation activist Mr. Joseph Rebello joined the campaign on all 4 weeks. Kallianpur J C ex President Mr. Mitra Kumar and members also joined and lent their support.

It was heartening to see the marked difference of shoppers over the month as majority of them brought durable non plastic carry bags for shopping. Stall Keepers were also supportive with few of them changing to Bio-degradable or Paper Bags.

Nirmala Thonse President Mr. Venktesh Kunder, Secretary Mr. Saeed Khan, Office Bearers and Members were fully involved in the campaign and plan to continue the noble cause in the coming days.
