Udupi : District Sand Agitation Committee called Udupi district Bandh on November 10 against ban on sand extraction in the district.

Addressing to media persons at DC office, Manipal here, Raghupathy Bhat said that district sand committee will continue their protest until the district administration permits sand extraction in CRZ and non-CRZ areas. Since 25^th October we are all on agitation against the policies of district administration and the state government. The code of conduct of the election will ends on November 8. All the organizations’ including political party’s leaders are taken a decision that in order to solve the sand crisis in the district decided to District Bandh on November 10.

Raghupathy Bhat said that the agitation will continues till the sand available in the district. District administration made us the problem in solving the crisis. District administration and the state government involved in sand extraction problems. There was no need to write a letter to the central government. The chief minister has supporting the Deputy Commissioner for her initiatives in regard to sand ban, he said.

Raghupathy Bhat said that in relate to the construction of buildings, all commercial establishments like building materials, crushers, paints and hard ware’s shops will remain closed from October 10. The agitation will continues even after 10^th November if their demands not met, he said.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC and opposition leader of legislative council said that here was meeting on the issue held at Bengaluru along with the chief minister, four ministers including district in-charge minister of two coastal district in-charge ministers and related secretaries. He told in the meeting that from October 16, sand will be available and ordered concerned DC to sand extraction. The order of chief minister not heard to DC of the district. The state government has not able to control the DC. The statement of chief minister that Union government is responsible for the sand crisis in the district baseless, he said.

Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Traditional sand mining boats association president Sudhakar Amin, Zilla Panchayat Vice President Sheela K Shetty, Sand Agitation committee convener M G Nagendra, PWD contractors Association President Alevoor Sridhar Shetty, Udupi Engineers Association President Gopal Bhat, Lorry Owners Association district President Praveen Suvarna, Chamber of Commerce district president Krishnaraj Kodancha, Raghavendra Shetty, Gopala Acharya, Manjayya Shetty, Ansar Ahmed, Sudheer Shetty, Udaykumar Hegde and other associations leaders were present.
