Udupi : Jericho Holy Cross warmly received at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur here on its last leg in Udupi diocese from St Anthony’s Church, Sasthan on Tuesday, 6^th November, 2018.

Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of the Milagres Cathedral warmly received at the entrance of the Milagres Cathedral at 4 pm. The large devotees accompanied the Jericho Holy Cross along with priests, nuns and ICYM youths proceeded towards the Cathedral systematically and placed at the Cathedral.

Brief prayers were held at Cathedral which was conducted by Assistant Parish Priest Rev Fr. Canute Noronha. Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes SJ read the Holy Bible and gave the significance and importance of Holy Cross.

Fr Lancy said that the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ has made the Cross likely the most recognized icon on earth. The Christian cross symbol represents the Roman Cross which Jesus Christ was crucified.

Jericho Holy Cross will be the instrument of believers at the time of disaster and agony. God will listen our prayers at the time of difficulties. Jericho Holy Cross is the instrument when we are in difficulties and it will give us the solution for our difficulties. The present situation in India is not so good for especially Christians and minorities. The Jericho Holly Cross will go all over the country for the veneration and special prayers.

We are Christian’s part of Holy Cross. It is the sign of the Christians as well. The love of God unlimited . Our love should be sacrifice. The Cross is the symbol of the triumph of good. The Cross bears witness to God’s infinite love for sinful mankind. But the Cross is much more than a symbol, it possesses spiritual power, he said.

After the prayers, Rector Fr. Lawrence D’Souza gave blessings to all participants during the prayer service and he gave gratitude to the faithful.

Large numbers of devotees of the church were participated. Rev Fr. Joswey Mascarenhas, Vocational Director of Pilar Fathers, Parish Pastoral council members were present.

Jericho prayer is a prayer by congregation where the people pray to God to intercede, protect or change something. In the book of Joshua, we are told that before conquering the Promised Land. God instructed Joshua to conquer the land of Jericho. When there was a long blast and great shout by the people, the fortress walls of Jericho fell flat to the ground allowing the Israelites entry to take the city. Based on this idea, the Jericho Holy cross is traveling across our country.

In Milagres Cathedral ward wise prayer is arranged at in the morning and in the evening for veneration, adoration and intercession. The Cross will move on 13^th November from the Cathedral which Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese will hand over to other diocese.
