Sand Mining permit holders lose permit if not extract sand

Udupi : Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district said that sand mining permit holders who do not start sand extraction from respective sand blocks will lose their permits.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, December 19, Priyanka Mary Francis said that the district administration received royalty from 33 people out of 45 people who are qualified to extract the sand. We are given deadline to start extracting sand before December 17. Hence, those who did not start sand extraction even though permit to extract sand will be cancelled, she said.
To a query, she said that the 16,000 tone sand already decided which should be extracted within the stipulated date. A team will start inspection from Thursday, December 20. When non – CRZ and CRZ comes together, the problems will come. It would be unfortunate that the permit holders are giving simple reason that they did not get the sand block areas.
She said that there is no amount fixed for CRZ. We are purchasing 10% sand from all permit holders through Nirmithi Kendras. We are paying Rs. 6,500 for three units’ sand. In order to store the sand, a stock yard is identified in Nejar, Kallianpur.
She also said that the sand blocks are identified five places in Swarna River at Uppoor, Mooduthonse. The problem of sand crisis somehow solved with extraction of sand in the district, she said.
