Kemmannu’s dream project - Road Widening program suffers setback just before touching the finish line
The Kemmannu road extension project has been the talk of the town for quite a while now. With the increase in number of vehicles plying on the roads in our village, there was a need to ease the bottle neck to avoid the number of road blocks happening.
The persistent efforts of the local elected representetives saw a ray of hope when a fund of Rs. 2Crores was sanctioned for this 8.5kms project under the CRF after a long struggle. This amount was however merely enough for the construction and trenching, and not for paying compensations to the people who are affected by this. The road widening project was a dire necessity and needed to be taken up on utmost priority and this is when it was decided to proceed with the project after consulting locals since only road construction without the widening would not help solve our problem.
The never dying spirit and enthusiasm of kemmanites was rewarded when the contractor who was awarded this project decided to go the extra step to support our project. On the reccomendation of the former MLA of Udupi, Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj, the contractor , stepped up to support the cause. Mr. Uday Shetty has already paid Rs.13 Lakhs from his profit on this project.
This amount has been utilised for demolition and reconstruction of different shops, the boundary wall , shop shutters, gate reconstruction, removal of coconut trees etc... A lot of other petty tasks required for construction have already been taken up with these funds. A total of 49 parties have voluntarily come forward and obliged to our request to co-operate.
One building owner ’Malige Hussain Saheb’, had given a delayed approval and this today remains as the lone standing building that has not yet been moved back. Now we have secured permission from the owner to proceed however, this is stuck due to shortage of funds.
While the contractor has already compensated to the best of his ability, our failure to not have this job done in time, might just result in the whole initiative taking a backseat.
As per the contractor, work is scheduled to start by the 15th of January 2019 and we can expect to see a new, well asphalted and broad road within the next couple of months only if we are able to have this building cleared and trenches done by then
I urge all kemmanites to take kind attention of this issue and kindly volunteer towards the cause. This road is for the larger good of the society and convenience of each one us. We are setting a role model to everybody else, by taking practical steps to support the government and work more efficiently.
Where else could we see building owners willingly co-operate, A contractor donating money from his profit, localities volunteer for months to help with the road clearance process ? This can happen only in our Kemmannu and we must not let this spirit die ..!!
With this article I am inviting you all to come together and support the cause. We are short of 5.50 Lakh Rupees to settle some committed compensation and the bills of the work done for the contractor to complete his work in early January. Your contribution however small will be happily accepted and acknowledged.
We will put out a detailed report of all the expenses in Kemmannu.com to ensure complete transparency .
We have worked beyond the barriers of political parties, religion and other differences to reach this far . Your support is need to take us across the finish line and I am sure you will not let my efforts and the efforts of many other volunteers go in vain ..!!
Please reach me at +91 9916 288 902 or +91 9844 994 484 for any further clarifications or queries. Thank you .
Yours sincerely

Great Relief: Kemmannu road completed

Your commitment towards this project is really appreciated.
The person who was reluctant to donate his small piece of Land is really painful whereas god almighty has blessed them with good fortune and they earned their lively hood in the same kemmannu pete, when something to return for their earning to the place they were reluctant, finally a good end because of your noble initiative.
When i look at the amount donated by Jamathe Islami Hind I was truly happy, remembering one of my neighbors words when they collecting the relief money for Kerala floods, he said they are the only trust worthy among our community when it comes for charity and truly deserved.
