Udupi : Do  not hurt the sentiments of Hindus by violating several centuries old traditions. We respect the verdict of the Supreme Court, but it should not hurt devotees and their traditions, said District Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Mattar Rathnakar Hegde.

Addressing at a public meeting to protest in front of Martyrs ground, Ajjarkad here on Thursday, January 3, against the entry of women at Sabarimala Temple, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde said that all Ayyappa devotees will follow strict rituals since years. Article 7 says that all are equal before law. In fact, the entry of women to Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala, Kerala is a question of belief and dedication. With the help of judgment in Supreme Court, the Communist party under Pinarayi Vijayan, chief minister of Kerala State, it was wrong on part of the communist government to have implemented the order of the Supreme court as it was against the sentiments of the Hindu community.

Mattar Rathnakar Hegde said that it was not just Sabarimala Temple; other temples in the country had their own traditions. The women of Muslim community could not enter their places of worship in Mosques. Why it should be applied to the Hindu community in the case of Sabarimala, he asked.

Manjunath Swamy, Public Relations head of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), South Zone said that Kerala government to have implemented the order of the Supreme court as it was against the sentiments of Hindu community. The Hindu community could never accept the order of the court on Sabarimala temple as it went against the traditions being followed for centuries.

He said the entry of women to Sabarimala is an offence. The anti-community people are intending to disturb peace around Hindu community. Hindu community will not tolerate this kind of attack on Sabarimala temple, he said.
