Udupi : Malpe Fishermen Association organized a massive protest with procession on January 6, from Malpe Fish Harbour to Ambalpady NH66 via Karavali Bypass in order to pressurize the government to speed up its search operation for missing seven fishermen and a boat “Suvarna Tribhuja” which went missing from December 15.

G.Shankar, Fishermen leader was flagged off the procession at the Malpe Sea Harbour by breaking the coconut. Several thousand fishermen from D.K., Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts joined in the huge procession which was culminated at Ambalpady NH 66 opposite of Shamili Hall. The NH 66 was closed after 9.45 am for the vehicles from Kinnimulki to Ambagilu junction.

During the procession fishermen shouted to get justice and to return of missing seven fishermen who went on missing since 23 days. Malpe Fishermen Association officials and large number of other fishing and other associations were supported for the protest.

At the end of huge procession ends, leaders of fishing communities, political representatives were addressed to the protesters. Among them addressed were Anand C. Kunder President of Malpe Fishermen’s Association, Ganapathy Mangre, Anand Karve, Manohar Boloor, Naveen Chandra Uppunda, Vasanth Karve, Raviraj Suvarna, Shobha Karandlje, MP., Lalaji Mendon, Raghupathy Bhat, Jayaprakash Hegde, Bharath Shetty.

The Fishermen Association officials and G Shankar handed over memo through Dr. Jayamala District in-charge minister to H D. Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister of Karnataka. At the end Dr. Jayamala addressed the protestors and promised to help maximum to trace the missing seven fishermen. The fishermen’s memo was also given to district commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.

 The district police arranged massive security with more than 500 policemen. The traffic was diverted in several places of the city. The Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbari supervised the entire arrangements of the police with the help of top police officials of the district.
