Peaceful and partial response for nationwide Bandh call at Udupi district

Udupi : The two day nation - wide bundh called for by the various Central Trade Unions failed to evoke good response in Udupi district. The private as well as government buses were not operated in the city and urban bus services.
The shutters of banks in various places of the city were partial closed. Shops and workshops were remaining opened. Hotels and other commercial establishments were opened. The schools and colleges were closed in the district as per the DC’s order.
The response of the people evoked a very poor response for the bundh call given by various trade unions. The police in bus stands and other places are present and alert to prevent any untoward incidents in the city in order to maintain law and order in the city and Udupi district.
INTUC, CITU, AITUC, AIBEA, BSNLEU,BEFI, JCTU and other trade unions supported the bundh and began their members procession from LIC office at Ajjarkad, Udupi to Corporation Bank, Udupi via Big Bazar, Court Road, Catholic Centre, K M. Marg, Head Post office, Service bus stand, City Bus stand and procession culminated at Corporation Bank near Jamia Mosque, Udupi.
Several leaders spoke during the protest meet at Corporation Bank. As per their call Bharat Bundh, their demands are to increase the minimum wages to Rs. 18,000, control the price rice, control the price of LPG, to introduce new job opportunities for the youth of the country.
The trade unions leaders demanding modification of labour laws’, increase of wages for anganawadi workers. The trade union leaders opposed the privatization of public companies. The leaders also oppose the contract of Rafale aircrafts production to Ambani groups instead of HAL.
The leaders of the unions demand the solution of sand problem in the district. They also oppose the merger of Vijaya bank with Band of Baroda. They demand the social security for contract labours.
K Shankar, A Sripathy Acharya, Ganesh Kotian of INTUC, K. V. Bhat of AITUC, P Vishwanath Rai of CITU, Ram Mohan of All India Bank Employees Association, Shashider Golla of BSNL Employees Union, Ravindra of BEFI, Prabhakar b Kunder of AIIEA and other leaders were spoke during the protest meet at Corporation Bank.
