Udupi : Plastic ban not being implemented properly in Udupi district even though ban on use of plastics. Some shop owners using plastic without any hesitation and some are now using plastic in their shops, said Sumith ZP member in 15^th Udupi Zilla Panchayat General meeting held at V S Acharya Auditorium on Tuesday, February 19.

Replying to the issue, Srinivas Rao, Chief Project officer said in 2016 Plastic Ban Act introduced. Accordingly we introduced plastic ban in urban and rural areas. There should need to give awareness among the people against the plastic ban. In Vandse, a cloth bag manufacturing unit started and more than 45 workers are working in that unit. There is more demand for the cloth bag in the district. We already issued Green Marriage certificates to promote clean environment, he said.

ZP member Sudhakar Shetty Marmadi said that irregularities in road construction of Kotambail areas of Kokkarne gram panchayat which was constructed four years back at the cost of Rs 2 crore. There are several complaints in regard to this road construction and irregularities were held, need proper enquiry and investigation.

Sumith Shetty ZP member complained that since 6 to 7 years in several gram panchayats’ PDO’s are not transferred. If PDOs not transferred since long years it would be possible to groups’ in gram panchayats. The problems will be solved when PDOs transferred within three years, she said.

Jyothi Harish said that we were happy to formation of Hebri taluk since last year. A new Tasildhar was appointed and also sanctioned for Hebri taluk Rs. 10 crore grants. But, the full functioning yet to started. There should be need to functioning of the taluk at the earliest to prevent problems for the people, she said.  

Janardhan Thonse ZP member said that beneficiaries are not getting money for the people at proper time. Widow allowance, Sandhya Suraksha and benefits from the government have being delayed. The officials not interested to solve the problems facing by the people, he said.
