Print Distribution of scholarship benefits of ‘Village to College’, programme, 2018 – 19.
Udupi, Feb 2019: Dr. Gabriel Fernandes a renowned research Scientist, hailing from Moodahadu Village, Barkur, now settled in US, has instituted a novel programme, ‘Village to College’, to encourage promising students, by way of Scholarship for the last 12 years. In the initial years the beneficiaries mainly from Barkur and those furthering their studies in NJC and Barkur Govt. College (RSNFGC), and in the later years the scheme was extended to Milagres College, Kallianpur and SMS First Grade College, Brahmavara.
Thus far, couple of hundred deserving students, mainly with a village background and hailing from economically poor families, who were aspiring higher studies, were benefitted from this endowment scheme.
Locally, Mr. Kishore Gonsalves, Prop. ‘Kishoos Enterprises’ and franchisee of ‘Daijiworld’ Udupi region, manages the Fund and the selected and recommended recipients by the respective heads of institutions were distributed for the academic year 2018-19.
The cash awards comprise Rs. 3000/- per student, 11 students from Milagres, 12 from SMS and 3 from Barkur, totaling an amount of Rs. 78,000/- were handed over to the respective Principals on 23rd February, 2019. While thanking Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, in accepting the awards, Dr. Vincent Alva Principal, Milagres College and Prof Sreepada, Principal SMS College expressed their satisfaction and yeoman service in the furtherance of education.
