Just a little water makes a difference between life and death - In addition, we can make THAT difference.
As human beings, we have been thinking largely about ourselves. Be it technological advancement, longer and heathier lives, luxuries at every step, futuristic health services, education, employment etc. etc. It is all about our wellbeing and us.
We have our governments taking care of the not so affluent ones from housing to food, from education to healthcare, from jobs to retirement schemes. Even though we humans are perfectly capable of working, earning and looking after ourselves. Not to mention the support system we have from family, friends, neighbours and society as a whole.
We have indeed come a long way. However, let us take a moment and think of the rest of species in our planet who have a much rights as we do. This is as much their world as ours. God made everything for everyone- except he made certain animals very dependent on us humans. They only have us.
So what have we been doing for them since in a sustainable way? Do they have a dependable support system? Do they have a caring and nurturing society? We know better. Look around you and you will see the immense suffering, pain, and abuse these innocent, mute, helpless beings go through day after day, hour after hour.
There is no denying that there are many kind souls among us who make a sincere effort to provide them some dignity of life. However, is this enough? Sadly no. Unless and until, we as a community have a change of heart and make up our minds to make some positive and lasting changes, our stray animals will continue to lead lives of misery and suffering.
We take so many things for granted- like food, water, shelter, safety etc. I know we cannot give all of these to our stray dogs but definitely, we can help with one thing- Water. Some of our dogs manage to find food (considering we have an eatery every third step). With summer looming and temperatures rising to 35 degrees and the blazing sun, what these animals and birds need is WATER and this is hard to come by. Most animals suffer tremendously due to lack of water; will be weak due to dehydration, puppies and even adult dogs die miserable deaths.
Can we do something about this? Definitely yes.
Here is what we can do to help them
Water is available for us in plenty and making a difference in these animals’ life will take less than 5 minutes.
What we can do
1. Place a mud, ceramic, stone or concrete pot outside your home, apartment, shop, place of business. ( you can use a sealed old flower pot too)
2. Fill with potable drinking water, clean, and change as and when required.
3. Spread the message and get at least 10 others to do it
4. Make sure your street has enough water pots
It is very simple, effective and lasting and the least we can do for our stray animals.
Let us make a difference just by giving them water.
For us it is nothing, but for them it is their LIFE.
