Udupi : Puttige Math Pontiff Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji anointed a 29 year old Prashanth Acharya as his successor here on Monday, 22^nd April, 2019 and renamed as Sushreendra Theertha Swami during the rituals held at Puttige Moola(lineage) Math on the banks of Swarna River near Hiriyadka.

The Puttige Math is one of the eight Maths of Udupi that follow the Dwaitha philosophy of Sri Madhwacharya.

Prashanth Acharya is the 31^st Yathi(Swami) of Puttige Math who was accepted the sanyasa deekshe here after Prashanth took bath in Swarna river and performed Kashaya Vstra Shastra (wearing saffron colour) and later performed Sthambha Narasimha pooja and Lord Vittal pooja. This was followed by the Pattabhisheka ritual held in front of the devotees of the mutt amid chanting of mantras under Herga Vedavyasa Bhat. All rituals were conducted by Herga Vedavyasa Bhat.

Prashanth Acharya is eldest son of Gururaja Acharya and Vinuta Acharya of Kunjebettu of Udupi. He had his early education at Indrali English Medium Schoo, Udupi and Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Vidyakendra, Alike. He did his Pre University education at Manipal Junior College, Manipal and graduated in Engineering in Sahyadri College of Engineering in Mangaluru in the Electronics and Communications. Then he proceeded to Bengaluru and served as Software Engineer in Erickson Software Company as a capacity of team leader. His younger brother Pradyumna also an Engineer working in Poona.

After the anointing rituals completed, Sugunendra Swamiji said that many were surprised that he had suddenly taken a junior seer. But the process of finding the junior seer had begun eight months ago. We have conducted all background and his activities, we checked his horoscope, consulted his family members, friends and colleagues. Today I will complete 45 years after ascending the peetha of Puttige Math, he said.

Sugenendra Theertha Seer said that Sushreendra Theertha has shown interest in offering pooja to Lord Krishna. He had told Sushreendra Theertha about the difficult life of a sanyasi had to lead. Sushreendra Theertha also desired to worship Lord Krishna in Udupi and he will study Vedas and religious texts for next 12 years in Puttige Moola Math near Hiriyadka.

Sugenendra Seer said that including U.S., Australia, Candada the Puttige Math has 11 centres overseas. We want to spread the message of Lord Krishna and religion to the entire world atleast 108 countries, he said.

Sugenendra Seer said that we are associated with United Nations, in presenting the issue of terrorists, we are working to making Puttige Math as number one Math in the country. Most of the Swami’s are originally from Puttige Math as there were five senior seers’ who lived for hundred years, he said.

At the end of the rituals and formalities, newly anointed Seer Sushreendra Theertha said that since childhood he was the devotee of Sri Krishna of Udupi. He saw all the time that his parents used to visit and offer prayers at Sri Krishna  Math. He desired to serve Lord Krishna by offering prayers. I approached Sugunendra Swamiji about my desire to become sanyashana. I came here with the blessings of Lord Krishna and I will learn all the shastras and will follow all tradition by kaya-vacha-manasa. Herewith once again I promise my Guru that I will keep up to the faith of Swami. I believe, there is huge custom for Puttige and I never violate the norms of it. I will abide by the all traditions of Puttige Math, he said.

Raghupathy Bhat Udupi MLA and Lalaji Mendon local and Kaup MLA also spoke during the occasion. All rituals of anointing had done without the presence of other Maths chiefs’ of Ashta Math of Udupi.
