District well prepared for Udupi - Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha counting of votes process

Udupi : As per the guidelines from the Election Commission of India, the district is well prepared for the counting of votes to be held on May 23, at St Cecily’s Educational institutions campus, said Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner of the district.
Addressing a press conference at her office at Rajathadri here on Saturday, May 18, Korlapati said that in relate to Udupi – Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha Constituency, the counting of votes process of will be begin from 8 am on Thursday, May 23 which first postal ballets votes to be counted. After 8.30 am booth level votes to be counted.
She said that since April 18, as per the guidelines from the election commission and election officials, under Superintendent of Police of Udupi district polling machines kept in St Cecily’s Educational Institutions campus highly profiled rooms. The counting of votes will be taken place in 14 rooms. Kundapura and Karkala assembly constituency votes to be held in one room each. Remaining other assembly legislative constituencies will be held in two rooms respectively. For the safety measures, wire mesh security has been provided between the counting officers and votes counting agents. CCTV cameras have been installed in all the counting rooms, she said.
In each room, counting would be supervised by eight assistant electoral officers and six additional assistant electoral officers. In addition to 5 additional tables for counting of postal ballots will be used and each tables additional assistant electoral officials are appointed. For the counting of votes total 127 vote counting supervisors, 131 vote counting assistants, 127 Micro Observer, 21 tabulation and 127 D grade officials were appointed. For vote counting officials, first round of training was provided on May 17 and second round of training to be provided on May 19, she said.
She said all necessary security measures will be taken during the counting votes. Only people holding authorized identity cards will be allowed to enter the counting centers. Cell phones, beedis, cigarettes, scissors, blades, cigar lights etc. cannot be carried into the voting centers. Women security officials will be provided to check of ladies. The concerned should cooperate during the checks by security officials, she said.
Nisha James SP said that all around 100 meteres no vehicles parking allowed. Door Frame Metal Detectors will be kept in three places. In three stages, police checking will be conducted. For the security purposes one CRPF platoon, 3 KSRP Platoons, 83 Home Guard, 312 police staff to be arranged, she said.
Prohibitory orders would be in force under section 144 of Indian Penal Code from 6 am on May 23 to 6 am on May 25 during which period no victory processions or meetings can be held, no crackers shall be used, she said.
SP said that as precautionary measures, dry day would be enforced from 6 am on May 22 to 6am on May 24 in the district. Meanwhile, no transportation and sale of liquor would be held during dry days time, she said.
