Udupi : This year there is acute shortage of drinking water in Udupi city and elsewhere in the Udupi district. In a bid to appease the rain Gods, the Udupi Nagarika Vedike Pancharatna Seva Trust organized wedding of male frog and female frog here on Saturday, June 8.

The wedding was held under the stewardship of Nithyanand Volakad, former Udupi CMC councilor and social worker and others. The wedding ceremony of two frogs began with procession from Maruthi Veethika and culminated at Kidiyoor Hotels via Diana Circle, K. M. Marg, Triveni Circle, Service Bus stand.

The wedding ritual began by getting a hold of a male and a female frog from different villages. The frogs were dressed in custom-made outfits and married as per the Hindu rituals, a ceremony that was attended by hundreds of people. The invitation of frog wedding read “Chi Varun, son of Kalsank with Chi. Sou Varsha, daughter of Kolalgiri Kilinje became viral and hence large number of people gathered at Kidiyoor Hotels.

After the wedding ceremony, Nithyanand Volakkadu said that our forefathers used to say that if frog crying for water, rain will come. This year there is acute shortage of water in the city. People wanted to get early rain in order to overcome the water crisis. To solve the massive water scarcity in Udupi district prayers would be offered to the rain God. This is the second time with massive public support this kind of wedding ceremony of frogs has been performed.

After the frog wedding reception was held with tiffin provided by the Kidiyoor Hotels.
