Milagres Cathedral of Udupi diocese celebrates Senior Citizen’s day with unity and fervour

Udupi : The Senior Citizen’s Day celebrated at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur near here on Sunday, June 9, 2019 with unity and fervor. The celebrations began with confessions’ in the Cathedral from 10 am.
The Eucharistic celebration was held with the main celebrant Rev Fr. Victor Pinto of Mangalore Diocese along with Very Fr. Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza, Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Rev Fr. Rohan Lobo Secretary to Bishop of Mangalore and Rev Fr. John Bennett Superior of Pilar Fathers, Kallianpur.
In his homily Fr. Rohan Lobo said that one of the works of the Holy Spirit is to bring people together, The first sign of the descent of the Holy Spirit was that the Christian message, the Good News was proclaimed in different languages. They were brought together under the umbrella of the one experience of Risen Lord. This is the miracle of the Holy Spirit. Unity does not mean uniformity. Nobody is able to say Jesus is Lord except in the Holy Spirit. There are many different gifts, but it is always the same spirit.
At the end of the mass, assistant parish priest Rev Fr. Canute Noronha placed the weekly announcements.
After the mass, get together of more than 200 senior citizens or elders were held at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall here. The programme began with welcome dance by the Milagres English Medium School students.
Rector of the Cathedral Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza presided over the programme. Dr. Leslie Lewis of KMC, Manipal was the resource person. Rev Fr. Victor Pinto and Rev Fr. Rohan Lobo were the chief guests.
Dr. Nery Cornelio Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council welcomed the gathering with very long words of appreciation on dignitaries present on the dais. Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes sj Principal of Milagres English Medium Schools, Rev Fr. John Bennett, Felciana Lewis secretary of PPC and Xavier Fernandes Coordinator of 18 Pastoral Commissions of the church were present on the dais.
In his brief address, the resource person Dr Leslie Lewis pointed out elders how they can live independently and how we can live without burden to other members of the their family. We should keep faith with ourselves, self esteem. The senior citizens should utilize whatever resources providing by their family members. They should be guide and instructors or teachers of the family and keep the goodness with the family members.
The chief guest Fr. Victor Pinto also spoke during the occasion and appreciated the people concerned to celebrate the senior citizen day and he blessed the programme.
Fr. Lawrence gave his precious presiding address and thankful to all concerned. The precious gifts were distributed to all the senior citizens present during the celebration. Spot games were conducted by Joyce Pinto and distributed the prizes for winners by Fr. Canute. Lunch was served to all the participants.
The long hours of celebrations was proposed vote of thanks by Xavier Fernandes. Sunitha Lasrado Secretary of concerned commission compared the programme. More than 250 people were enjoyed the Citizen’s Day celebrations 2019 with unity and fervor.
