Udupi : Souharda Samithi, Catholic Sabha Udupi Church unit, Mother of Sorrows Church and Lions Club Udupi Sangama jointly organized “Sarva Dharma Eid-ul-Fitr” festival at Don Bosco Hall, Church compound here on Monday, June 10, 2019.

Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca Parish priest of Udupi church presided over the programme. Addressing the gathering Idris Hoode, Vice President of Mohammaddiya Educational Trust Hoode said that all religions teaches peace on earth. No religions teach and support the terror, enmity or cruelty. All religions including Islam are against the terrorism.

Idris Hoode said that During the Ramzan Muslim brethren observing fasting. When the fasting ends, the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated. He pointed out about Quran on fasting and celebrations of festival. Fasting during Ramadan is one the five pillars of Islam. There is also a verse in the Quran that prescribes fasting for all Muslims who are mature and health enough to fast for the full day. So Muslims fast as an act of worship, a chance to get closer to God and way to become more compassionate to those in need, he said.

Rev Fr. Chetan Lobo Capuchin, PRO of Diocese of Udupi in his address said that there is lot of comparison between Islam and Christian principles. We should give respect and values to all the religions in practice. We should not criticize other religions. Though I have no much knowledge about the other religions, I can say that there are five important things in Islam. They are faithfulness, prayer, fasting, charity and visit of holy places. Most important is charity and fasting. We should without criticising other religion; we should practice good things of our own religion. All religions shall follow the donating and fasting. Donating or charity by any sort is universal thing. Fasting and donating are co-related and we can see God by donating and fasting, he said.

Other guest of the celebrations, Ln. Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Banker and administrator of Indrali Panchadurga Parameshwari temple said that in order to maintain peace and equality, all religions have their own contribution for the development of humanity. Christianity upholds peace, Islam upholds equality and Hinduism upholds spirituality. Hence, in this way every religion is contributing its part for humanity, he said.

Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca blessed the occasion and spoke his presiding address.

Earlier, invocation prayer song was held by Udupi church Choir team members. Michael D’Souza welcomed the gatherings. Students of MET Public School sang the Ramzan song. Mohammed Moula delivered vote of thanks. Alphonse D’Costa compered the programme.
