District police asks NHAI to prevent problems of water logging on NHs during monsoon

Udupi : There are problems of water logging and other on national highway 66 after initial rains in Udupi. Hence, the district police asked the National Highways Authority of India to prevent water logging problems on NH 66 in Udupi district.
Speaking to media persons during the phone-in programme on Friday, June 14, Nisha James, Superintendent of Police said that new official of NHAI taken over responsibilities recently. The district police asked NHAI to solve the water logging problems created especially at NH66 in Kundapur and Brahmavar. The NHAI could station a team each at Sasthan and Kirimanjeshwara to prevent and solve the problem, she said.
Nisha James said that as per the directions of the district administration, a team comprising representatives of the police, the Regional Transport Office and the Public Works Department had identified black spots on NHs and suggested remedial measures. Their report will be placed before the Road Safety committee meeting and then forwarded to the NHAI.
To a query, she said that the NHAI already considered actively the three places, Katpady junction, Ambalpady Junction and Santhekatte Junction for signal lights. Moreover, the district police also suggested to the NHAI to install signal lights at 11 places. On both NH 66 and NH 169A in the district need pedestrian crossings. We suggested the NHAI was not yet done the feasibility study on pedestrian crossings, she said.
A caller from Parkala informed the SP that many auto’s and vans were carrying school students more than its capacity in Parkala and other areas. In response to the caller, SP said that strict actions will be taken if any school auto or van was found to be carrying more than its capacity. Same caller from Parkala complained that many mobiles were stolen during the weekly market day at Parkala and people have lodged complaints at the police station, but no action has taken. SP Nisha James replied to caller that if anyone loses the mobile phone, the looser person report the IMA number of the mobile which will help the police to trace easier, she said.
One caller informed the SP that there are matka and illegal sand mining activities at Gangolli areas. Even though there is information about illegal such activities, some police officials are not taking the measures to curb it. SP told to the caller that immediate action to be taken against such illegal criminals. Action also will be taken on people involved in gambling, sand mining activities and other. Action also be taken on the officials who fail to take steps to curb such illegal activities, she said.
Another caller said that liquor is sold in petty shops in Byndoor and Kandloor areas. SP directed the police official to take action immediately.
A caller from Udupi complained the SP that several bikes and cars use high beam headlights during the night time. It will totally blinds the riders specially two wheelers when such using high beam headlights from the opposite directions. SP directed the police official to take special drive against high beam headlight users.
A senior citizen caller from Udupi City limit complained about the police officials of Udupi Town Police that the police official misbehaved with him when he went to carry out his pass-port related issue. SP said it is most important that police should treat people in a friendly manner. So that members of public are able to with police in better atmosphere of everything. SP said she would take all measures to ensure a friendly atmosphere and planning to organize a workshop for the police personnel.
SP Nisha James said that after the previous phone-in programme, 20 matka cases were registered and 20 persons arrested, 33 gambling cases were registered and 33 people are arrested. There are 4 excise related cases were registered and 23 arrested. Under COPTA 86 cases were registered. In transport related cases 103 for shrill horns, 58 for using mobiles while riding and driving, 1977 for riding without helmets, 135 cases for over speed and 5409 cases for other crimes under Motor Vehicles Act.
