Udupi : Left parties staged protest at War Memorial ground at Ajjarkad here on Wednesday, August 7, against the Union government for revoking the Article 370 and 35(A).

Addressing protestors, Shashidhar of CPI (M) said that revoking the Article 370 as attack on the country’s integrity, democracy and Federal structure and accusing the Union government of further complicating the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that Left parities in the country hold country wide protest against the Union government for revoking the Article 370 and 35(A) which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir as a retrograde measure. BJP government has made a mockery of the Federal sprit of the country by spitting Jammu and Kashmir. It was unfortunate that President Ram Nath Kovind had given his approval to the resolution in a hurry to split the state into two Union Territories. He felt that such decision could complicate the problems further.

He said that earlier government was suspended. Even demonetization of currency still much effected to economy very badly. The industrial growth completely collapsed due to demonetization. How can it be the development of the state with removing the Article 370? He asks.

Addressing to protestors, Balakrishna Shetty CPI(M) district secretary said that the unilateral decision as a measure intended to trample upon the rights of the states while revoking the Article 370 of the constitution. The division of Jammu and Kashmir as two separate entities bringing them under the control of the Centre by designating them as Union Territories and abolishing Article 370 and 35(A) was a violation of the federal spirit of constitution, he said.

Balakrishna Shetty alleged that attempts were being made to belittle the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Shiek Abdulla and his efforts to keep Jammu and Kashmir integrated through Article 370. He coming down heavily on the government and said that abolishing Article 370 was an attack on the democracy which was done secretively by the ruling BJP.

He said that TV media and other celebrating the revoking the Article 370 but we left parties protesting against the government. Due to demonetization, the economy of the country has very serious condition. The growth rate of the economy completely collapsed. BJP should think that why Article 370 existed. British people made game to divide the country by making problems with inter religious people. Against the Muslims nobody fight with them, but only the King Harish Singh tried make harder for British. There was huge demand for special status for the Jammu and Kashmir.

He said even some of the Union Territories have Article 370. BJP revoked the Article 370 in order to change the way of the people that the nation is facing severe economic crisis, he alleged.

District left parties leaders and labour leaders were present during the protest.
