Udupi : The staffs at Navayuga toll gates on National Highway 66 at Hejamady and Sasthan have resorted to a spot strike on Friday evening, August 16.

The staff was in protest against non- payment of salary for the month of July this year which has compelled the staffs who were working at the toll gate to resort to a spontaneous strike.

Later, as per the assurance given by Hejamadi toll gate manager Shivaprasad Rai, the strike was withdrawn at around 7.45 pm and continued their work as usual.

Both the toll gates were managing by Marcoline Company on contract basis. The said company had recovered all its expenses till July 2019 prior to handing over charge to Navayuga Company. Hence as pr the resources available, Marcoline Company should responsible to pay the employees’ wages for the month of July. But, the company not disbursed the salary for the staff whereas only giving assurances, it said.

Panduranga Karkera, a social worker from Hejmadi, Gangadhar and Sudesh Shetty. Padubidri Assistant Police Sub-inspectors were present at Hejamady toll gate and Nithyananda Gowda Kota Police Station Sub-Inspector and team present at Sasthan Toll gate plaza.

Shivaprasad Rai said that due to the staff strike, the Navayuga Company incurred the loss of around Rs. 3 lac  which vehicles during the flash strike vehicles passed through the toll gates for four hours freely.
