In solidarity with Flood Victims, Kemmannu Parishioners with “Raising Smiles” donate items and cash worth 1.86 lakhs.

Kemmannu, August 22, 2019: Responding to the call of Diocese of Udupi and under the leadership of Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, a donation drive was initiated in the Diocese for the people affected by recent floods, Kemmannu Parishioners along with Raising Smiles collected and handed over items of daily need and cash amounting to Rs. 1,86,652.

Responding to the call of Parish Priest Fr. Victor D’ Souza, who requested every family to donate at least one item, parishioners willingly responded and contributed generously within a period of 3 days. Food items like Rice, Dal, Flour, Oil, Biscuits, Sugar, Tea Powder and non food items like Bed Sheets, Blankets, Toiletries, Bath and Toilet soaps, Sanitary Napkins and many more items of daily use were collected.

Meanwhile, in a separate drive ‘Raising Smiles’ an association of likeminded youths, which is into social service activities for the last couple of years, collected Food and non food items worth 75,000. Youth leader Nikhil Menezes took the initiative. Most of the aid cost of Raising Smiles was collected from its members who work abroad.

In Kemmannu, Catholic Sabha, Kemmannu Unit under the Presidentship of Mr. Arun Fernandes took the lead and members helped to sort out list and deliver the collected items to Kallianpur Deanery. 

The collected items from 9 Parishes of the Deanery will then be taken to the places affected by the flood and handed over to the responsible relief agencies or Churches.
