Udupi : The four day State level inter-district Junion and Sub-junior Athletics Tournament will be held from today on Friday, August 23 to August 25 at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium, Ajjarkad here.
Addressing media persons at Udupi Press Club on Thursday, August 22, the Chairman of the tournament organizing committee K Raghupathy Bhat, Udupi MLA said that the tournament will be held on four age groups, i.e., under 14, under 16, under 18 and under 20.
Nitte Education Trust was supporting the tournament with Rs 2 lakh. Around 1,700 athletes will be participated in the tournament. For the first time in the history of the state, Photo Finish will be used in the Karnataka State Juniors’ Athletic meet. In relate to this the officials already arrived to the district, he said.
He said winner athletes will be eligible for the South Zone Athletes tournament to be held from September 11 to 14.
The inaugural programme will be held at 9 am on Friday. Ashok Adanthaya President of district Amateur Athletic Association Hon advisor will presides the inaugural programme. Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr. H S Ballal to inaugurate the tournament. Kota Srinivas Poojary, State minister will grace the occasion.
Dinakar Babu ZP President, G Jagadhish DC, Dr Sharath Rao, Ravindra Rai, Raviraj Hegde, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Udayakumar Shetty Muniyalu, H T Mahadev, Rohith Kumar Kateel, Rajavelu and other will be present during the inaugural programme.
Rajavelu Secretary, Karnataka State Athletic Association, Mahesh Tagor, Secretary of Organizing committee, Dr. Deepak Ram Beri, Treasurer, Udupi district Amateur Association, Narayana Devadiga Organizing Secretary, district Amateur Association and others were present.
