Manipal: Optical Coherence Tomography Angioplex inaugurated at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on 22nd August 2019, Thursday.  OCT Angioplex has unique capabilities of high speed scanning, specialized protocols and high definition optical sections, bring with it not only accurate results on patient follow up, but also great new opportunities in the field of research. Exciting new imaging technology that allows for non-invasive non-dye-based visualization of blood vessels of the retina and choroid.

A three-dimensional image is obtained depicting erythrocyte flow as well as the microvasculature of the superficial, deep, and avascular layers of the retina. Aids in Early Diagnosis of prevalent disorders like Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Blood Vessel Occlusions, and several more.

Optical Coherence Tomography Angioplex was inaugurated by Dr Vinod Bhat Vice Chancellor, MAHE Manipal. Dr Poornima Baliga B Pro vice Chancellor MAHE, Manipal, Dr Aashish Kumar Bansal, Medical Director, Center for Sight, Hyderabad were the guest of honour of the program. Shri C G Muthana, Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital Manipal and Dr Sulatha V Bhandary, Professor and Head, department of Ophthalmology, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal were present.

Dr H Vinod Bhat appreciated the Eye Department and Hospital and said “the steps taken by the Department towards advanced technology is commendable. Definitely it will be of very useful for the patients. I wish the use of this new technology will take the hospital and healthcare to a greater height”. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aashish Kumar Bansal said, “now a days advance technology is a strength for any clinician, as it is much helpful to detect the ailment at the earliest stage, so that the clinician can give precise diagnosis. OCTA is a boon for better patient care in the eye department”.
