Udupi: Minister of Fisheries and Ports and Inland Water Resources Minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary said that the work on the works undertaken by the Fisheries and Ports Department in the district will be delayed and a state inspection will be carried out under the leadership of state level officials.

He spoke at the department’s progress review meeting on fisheries, port and inland water at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday, August 30.

The breakwater works at Kodari, which cost Rs 33 crore, was supposed to be completed by the end of January, but so far only 20 per cent of the work has been completed. Furious at the lack of progress, Minister Poojari suggested that the department be reviewing the cause of the said works delays with the top officials of the department and report on the cancellation of the licensing and blacklist of contractors who did not perform the said works.

Due to the lack of dredging in the Kodi Kanyana, fishing boats will be disrupted and the work will be commenced soon after obtaining the necessary permit under the CRZ’s rules for dredging. He said that all necessary permits should be made before the commencement of any work so that the work can be completed in a timely manner.

The Malpe Phase 3 work has been completed and the port department officials have been instructed to complete the necessary minor tasks and hand them over to the Fisheries Department by the end of September.

The first phase of the Kerala-based out-of-ports construction project at Maravanthe has been completed at a cost of Rs 45 crore. Minister Poojary said the site will be reviewed with senior officials to undertake the second phase of work.

Minister taken information on grant sanctioned for Sea Erosion, barrier construction etc work in the district and also asked information about the application received by the officials.

The fishermen in the district are 170 kil letre Kerosene was being distributed. The minister, however, said that as there are more than 4,000 fishing boats in the district, an additional 300 liters of kerosene will be raised and the officials should take appropriate action on 300 liters of kerosene store and other facilities.

In the meeting also discussed the timely payment of the fishermen’s savings scheme, disbursement of monolithic relief funds, engine subsidy of fishing boats and the riparian (Masyashraya) scheme.

The Minister of Power and Fisheries instructed the officials of the Department of Fisheries to come to the conclusion of the works quickly by mutual coordination without any delay in the public interest.

District Panchayat President Dinakar Babu, Vice President Sheela K Shetty, District Collector Jagdish, Additional District Collector Sadashiva Prabhu, Port, Inland Water Transport and Fisheries Department officials were present.
