Milagres College Alumni (NRI) distributes scholarship for 151 deserving students

Udupi : Milagres College, Kallianpur and Milagres Alumni Association jointly organized Milagres Alumni (NRI) Scholarship distribution ceremony at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall here on Friday, August 30, 2019.

 

 

We are also indebted to the school or college that we got education from these institutions. The alumina should matter to our poor most deserved students. So, we can fulfill our life better, he said.

Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese and President of Catholic Education Society of Udupi diocese presided over the programme. In his address, Bishop said that this day is one of the historical golden days of Milagres College. The most important objective of this day is to help by distributing scholarship for economically backward students. The other objective is to give support in order to continue their education.

He said we are all obviously indebted to the society.  We are benefited from the services of other people. Meanwhile other people also are sacrificing for us. We donate to schools which we studied, it make a large difference in the society as awe. We can experience satisfaction while sacrificing something for the society and the school, he said.

 

 

Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and former secretary of CESU quoting Mahatma Gandhiji that there is enough for everyone’s need and not for greed. He gave gratitude to all concerned especially alumni of the college for their better purpose for the students of college.

He said Alumni are the assets of an educational institution and make their alma mater proud with their achievements. They are the ambassadors. We should think of people who are underprivileged and deserved. We should support them to enhance their situation better. Likewise, the students who were awarded scholarships could help other students’ in future.

 

 

During the occasion the chief guest Mahesh Shetty (Alumnus 1986/87) who is entrepreneur at Dharwad and other northern Karnataka was felicitated by the Bishop and other dignitaries on the dais.

Speaking to the gathering, Mahesh Shetty said that he is proud to be a Milagrean. He is indebted to the college that he earned lot of things during his study in Milagres and Milagres is the first step of his successful career and life. He said there are lot of differences between the fast situation and present while studying in the college. We should keep faith with our teachers who were gurus.

He said that we are indeed indebted to our college. We should return what we ought to give for the college and the students. Milagres 1986/87 batch formed group in social media who are 52 members. They will think to give something for their college which they indebted to the college.

The President of Milagres College Alumni Association Prof Salvadore Noronha handed over a token cheque of Rs. 6,41,044 to the Bishop and later distributed to 151 students.

Earlier Dr Vincent Alva delivered key note address and said that Alumni Association of Milagres College was founded in 2002. The goal of the association is to bring back the alumni who are in thousands, to the college. Our Alumni are spread at over the Globe and are well placed in the society. Recently there was a get together of Milagreans in Dubai, UAE to felicitate some their teachers. There was a think tank about the progress of the Alma Mater. The outcome of the think tank was the formation of Milagres NRI group.

Under the leadership of Wilson Dsa, Stephen Cornelio, Alfred Crasto, Nagaraj, Priyanka Furtado and others initiative was taken to collect a sizable amout to award scholarship to the deserving students. Later Dr Alva welcomed the gatherings.

Philip Furtado father of Priyanka, Prof. Sophia Dias Dsouza Secretary of Alumni Association, Sherwin Oliveira President of Students Welfare Council were present on the dais.

Salvadore Noronha proposed vote of thanks. Sandeep Shetty Lecturer in English compared the programme.
