Udupi : District Congress Committee staged a protest here at Jodukatte, near Big Bazar on Wednesday, September 4, against the arrest of former minister and state Congress leader D K Shivakumar by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Addressing the protestors, former minister and senior congress leader Vinay Kumar Sorake said we strongly condemn the arrest of D K Shivakumar. Arresting great leader like D K Shivakumar is black day in the history of Karnataka. BJP since one year have been totally harassing D K Shivakumar. When Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, he had said that he would make a Congress Mukth Bharath. He is succeeding by arresting congress leaders like D K Shivakumar and Chidambaram. He has launched politically motivated attack on their opponents and it is clearly revenge politics which danger to democracy.

Sorake said that our leader D K Shivakumar being arrested by ED alleging that they got Rs 8 crore with him. But I would like to ask them, where were they when BJP was buying 17 MLAs paying them in several crores and why did they not arrest them?. Why did the ED and IT not question them? By arresting Congress leaders, our leaders not bend to BJP. They are doing vendetta politics by arresting our leaders. Sorake said by arresting our Congress leaders, BJP trying to murder of democracy system of the country and we Congress workers strongly condemns the political vendetta by BJP.

Sorake also warns BJP that D K Shivakumar must release immediately or face severe protest by the people at large.

U R Sabapathy former MLA said that we condemn the arrest of our leader D K Shivakumar by the ED. It is politically motivated arrest. BJP is targeting the Congress leaders with arresting them by using of ED and IT. The economy of the country is in danger. Yuddyurappa sent to jail for 21 days when Sadanand Gowda was the chief minister of the state. Iswarappa jailed for printing the currency notes, several leaders of BJP who were indulged in several crimes are now ministers of the state cabinet. The economic system of the country completely failed. In order to divert the failure of the government, BJP trying to arrest top leaders of congress as well as opposition leaders, he alleged.

Kishan Hegde Kolkebail also addressed the protestors. Congress leaders shouted slogans against the Narendra Modi, Amith Shat, Yeddyurappa and other leaders.

District congress leaders like Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, vice president Prakyath Shetty, Ramesh Kanchan, Yathish Karkera, Dinish Puthran, Ganesh Nergi, Veronica Cornelio, Roshni Oliveiera, Ida Gibba Dsouza, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Prashanth Jathanna, Louis Lobo, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Rehaman, Yuvaraj and other leaders staged rasto roko at Joduraste with large number of protestors.
