Udupi District Congress stages a protest against Union and State government

Udupi : District Congress staged a protest against Union government led by Narendra Modi and state government led by Yeddyurappa government for not providing compensation to the recent flood victims and implementation of new Vehicles Act, at War Memorial, Ajjarkad here on Thursday, September 12.

 

 

Speaking to protestors, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the both Union government and state government neglecting the people who lost their houses, farm land and horticulture land in the state due to incessant rains, floods and landslides. The both the government should have provided compensation to the victims. But, the people of state struggling for their life, prime minister came to Bengaluru from where he would proceed Haryana to attend an election campaign. BJP only concentrating only on winning the elections by using the people as vote bank, they are not bothered about the welfare of the people.

Sorake said that BJP lied the people during the election campaign that if BJP get power, the sand problem in the district will resolved within 15 days. But not sand problem solved. The union government has implementing various acts without any discussions in the parliament. As such, heavy fines for defaulters of motor vehicles act which great burden for the poor people. There would need to discuss any acts in the parliament prior to implementation. Narendra Modi’s home state in Gujarat slashed the fine penalty for violators of motor vehicle act. But BJP government in the state playing with poor people of the state, he alleged.

 

The merger of well settled scheduled banks like Corporation, Syndicate Bank which developed in the undivided district, now merged with weaker scheduled bank by NDA government. The economy of the country in very bad shape, he said.

Former MLA U. R. Sabhapathy said that even though there was flood situation worsened in the state, the newly formed government in the state by Yeddyurappa ran to New Delhi for selecting ministers’ into his cabinet. One of the minister was resigned due to his misbehavior in the state assembly, has named the deputy chief minister who not win in the election.

Sabhapathy said that R. Ashoka and Yeddyurappa sent to jail when there was Sadananda Gowda’s BJP ministry in the state. Presently, the Union government using ED, Income Tax and other government institutions to arrest Congress leaders and trying to abandon the opposition in the country. Three IAS officers and several IPS ranking police are giving resignations’ from their post due to pressure from the government, he alleged.


Sabhapathy alleged that three BJP MPs exporting the beef in the country which is one of leading beef exporter in the world. BJP won the election on the basis of Hindutva, but not on the basis of development.

Earlier the procession taken out from District Congress office to War Memorial chowk at Ajjarkad via Jodukatte near Big Bazar and shouted slogans against the NDA government and State government.

Veronica Cornelio and others spoke during the protest meet. Large numbers of Congress workers were present during the protest.
