Udupi : Catholic Sabha Milagres Cathedral unit and Health Commission of the Milagres Cathedral organized “Free Eye checkup camp” held at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall, Kallianpur near here on Sunday, September 15, 2019.

Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza presided over the inaugural programme. Dr. Lavanya of Dr A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Doddanagudde, Udupi was the resource person of the camp.

In her inaugural address Dr. Lavanya advised the patients the importance of camp and complete process and benefits. She strongly recommended regular eye check-up for diabetic patients and school going children. She said eyes play a vital role in our day to day lives and are perhaps the most precious gift we have. It can become embarrassing if we fail to recognize a person due to lack of good vision. However, health consequences of bad vision can be far worse.

She advised the gathering that need eye donation to the needy. The pointed out the formalities while someone willing to donate the eyes as soon as he or she dies within six hours. There are eye banks which situation in Kasturba Hospital and Prasad Nethralaya, Udupi. She immensely support the donors of eyes which can help to restore the eye sight of individuals.

Very Rev Fr Dr. Lawrence C. D’Souza gave his presiding address. Dr. Nery Cornelio Vice President of parish pastoral council and secretary Felciana Lewis, Catholic Sabha Milagres unit president Marina Lewis, Convener of parish 18 commissions’ Xavier Fernandes, Health Commission convener Petcy Almeida and Dr. Lavanya were present.

Earlier, the inaugural programme began with invocation prayer hymn by parish choir members. Owin Rodrigues welcomed the gatherings and Marina Lewis delivered the vote of thanks. Precilla compared the programme. Large number of patients benefited the free eye check up camp.
