Sand issue: 158 people to start leasing in the district from Wednesday - MLA Raghupati Bhatt

Udupi: The sand problem that has been dampened in Udupi district for the last two years has finally been cleared. Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhatt said the mining department would begin the process of issuing leases to license holders from Wednesday.
K. Raghupathy Bhat Udupi MLA who had issued the announcement convened a seven-member committee chaired by the district officials on Tuesday to decide on clearing the mound in the CRZ area of Udupi district, allowing 158 permits. Officials from the Department of Mines will begin the lease process from Wednesday, he said.
Since two years there was acute shortage of sand in the district which the economy in the district hardly deteriorated for businessmen and people at large. The good news for the people of the district that from Wednesday, September 18, that a panel of seven people chaired by Deputy Commissioner conveyed the meeting on the issue of sand dredging at the CRZ range of Udupi district of which 158 permits have been granted. Kota Srinivas Poojary told earlier that the sand mining will be started prior to September 20 after solving all legal matters and other technical matters.
