19 year-old youth arrrested for theft in his relative’s house

Udupi : Kapu police have arrested a 19 year old youth who has been accused of stealing valuables from his relatives house at Shivanand Nagar near Shankerpura.
The arrested is identified as Nishanth S Kumar, a resident of Kothalikatte in Uliyargoli village near Kaup who has been stealing valuables jewelry weighing 144 grams worth Rs 4.80 lakh kept in the cupboard of Shankar S and his wife Girija was stolen without the knowledge of the couple prior to two months back. The couple had complained to Kaup Police station about the theft on September 13.
The accused Nishanth S Kumar who used to visit their house often, hence the couple had expressed suspicion about the involvement of one of the relative Nishanth Kumar. The accused used to visit the house whenever Vanaja, mother of the complainant was not at home.
The Kaup police however, found Nishanth roaming at Kaup bus stand area on Wednesday morning detained him in order to interrogate about the burglary at a house in Shankerpura . As per Nishanth, he was going to Udupi to sell some of the jewelry in his possession on September 18 and he confessed that he was the one who stole the said ornaments and he had exchanged some of the ornaments in certain jewelry shops for new ornaments. He also said that he had pledged in a cooperative bank to get the loan on stolen gold ornaments.
Kaup police have recovered jewelry weighing about 111.52 grams worth Rs 2.50 lakhs from Nishanth Kumar. The accused was reportedly produced in the court and was remanded to judicial custody till October 3.
Under the directions from Nisha James, District Superintendent of Police, Krishnakanth assistant superintendent of police, Mahesh Prasad Kaup Circle Police Inspector, the operation led by Rajashekar Saganooru Kaup Police Station sub-inspector of police, Jaya K crime sub-inspector, Udaya Ravi Probationary sub-inspector, Pradeep and others were participated.
