Udupi : The district hospital in the Ajjarkadu here upgraded as district hospital in files only, but in real sense as far as district hospital growth is concerned not upgraded, alleged by Dr. P. V. Bhandary Psychiatrist.

Addressing to media persons during the press meet held at Udupi Press Club here on Friday, September 20, Dr P V Bhandary said that now there is a BJP government on both Center and State. The district MP as well as elected representatives of the district should seriously think about the upgrade of district hospital.

He said that when Udupi district newly established in 25^th May 1997 along with seven other districts, in Udupi also the government hospital in Ajjarkad also given priority as district hospital when there was 124 beds in the hospital. However, since then we got information that the staff is not increased or the district upgraded with fundamental facilities in the hospital.

Dr. Bhandary said that everyday there are more than 600 patients and over 150 in-patients are treated. But, there is a shortage of atleast 17 doctors, more than 25 nurses and more than 30 group D employees. Hence there is no benefit to blaming the district hospital. Hence, people’s political representatives should display their political will to upgrade the hospital, he said.

The government in 2001 had said that the hospital was upgraded to a 200 beds hospital. In 2017 Pramod Madhwaraj had announced that the hospital was upgraded. But, the problems of the hospital not solved. As the day passes, the problems are getting more complicated in the hospital. If you question the political people’s representatives on various problems facing in the hospital, the grants from the government not received. Now presently there is one party government at both centre and state. The representatives of the district put pressure on the respective government and solve the serious problems, he said.

Ramesh Kallotte, Honorary President of Karavali Youth Club said that on the issue of district hospital, we brought attention with all MLAs, district commissioner and others. The health minister will visits the district by the end of this month. We will bring attention of the minister for the upgrade of the hospital and solve the various serious problems in the district hospital. He also requested the members of public to support their cause for the upgrade of district hospital with better facilities for the poor people of the district. There should need to various fundamental facilities in emergency ward and need grant to establish the new hospital building to face the demands of large poor people.
