Udupi : Very shocking that the first ordained priest of Udupi Diocese 36 year old Rev Fr. Mahesh D’Souza Principal of Don Bosco English Medium School and assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva reportedly ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on Friday late night.
Fr. Mahesh D’Souza was hailing from Moodubelle church and presently his parents residing in Manipal. The reason for the deciding to end his life is not known.
After his ordination on April 15, 2013, he was appointed as Head Master of Milagres English Medium School as well as assistant parish priest of Milagres Cathedral. Meanwhile he was assistant parish priest of Mount Rosary Church, Kallianpur. He was transferred to Shirva and taken over as Principal of Don Bosco English School, Shirva in 2016.
According to police sources, the deceased must have committed suicide on Friday night between 8.30 pm and 9 pm. It is gathered that a meeting on church related event was taking place just before the priest left to his room. It is said he had also attended a teacher training programme in the morning. The police have not found any suicide note in his chamber. Police also checked the priest’s mobile which is locked. They are verifying the CCTV footages. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo visited Shirva church. The mortal remains of the priest are kept at KMC hospital.

Dear friends
It is so sad to hear that a young priest 36 year old, of the Udupi Dioceses, Fr Mahesh died hanging himself.
God alone knows the struggles this dear priest went through that led him to take such a dicission to end his own life.
Such incidents only reminds us that ’Life is a mystery’. We can never take ’anyone’s struggles’ for granted. We have to be the rays of hope for the people around us.
We have to develop more ’Divine and humane’ qualities in us so that any person struggling in life may find comfortable in sharing his/her struggles and caring by ’US’.
When crisis hits a human being, ’no advise/no logic/no rationality’ comes to victims rescue. His/her possition, title, degree, wealth means nothing....
It is the person alone will know the burden of his soul.
We should never ’BE LITTLE’ others problems/burden of Sin/temptation/addictions/spiritual darkness. That problem may be a silly thing *for* me but not to the person who struggles.
Dear fr Mahesh
We don’t know you personally,
But we are so sad to hear that you ended up your life.
We really don’t know why you committed suicide: is it because of ’sin’? We those who are alive too are sinners. We, the worst sinners are still living. Because of Fear??? We too are people of fear.... Dear fr we too are weak fragile human beings....
Your death reminds us of our responsibility of ’being compassionate human beings, soaked in Divine qualities in order that suffering people may come to us in thier desperate state of life’.
We pray for you and your beloved parents and sibling and friends. ’While you dear fr.’ pray for us, the living.....
You are a priest and your death too Preached a homily to us: Be compassionate human beings as the heavenly father is compassionate.
Love you Father.
