Shirva Church assistant parish priest Fr. Mahesh D’Souza laid to rest

Udupi : The funeral rites of the Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Principal of Don Bosco English Medium School and assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

The funeral mass of Mahesh D’Souza was concelebrated by Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese along with Most Rev Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza Emeritus Bishop of Mangalore diocese, Msgr Dr. Baptist Menezes Vicar General of Udupi Diocese and more than 150 priests from both the diocese.

In his homily, Rev Fr. Royson Fernandes Editor of Uzvaad fortnightly said that the birth and even death of a person leaves behind a message to the people. Death is the door that we all have to pass through to go to heaven. Fr. Mahesh also lived his life with the spirit of beatitudes.

At the end of the mass, on behalf of Udupi diocese, former vicar of Shirva Church Very Rev Fr. Stany Tauro said in his condolence words, mentioned the characters of the Fr Mahesh and his devoted work for the institution of Don Bosco English Medium School. Fr Tauro said that he remembered the friendly nature, leadership, administration which was widely accepted by the priests and faithful of the diocese. His contribution to the church as assistant parish priest was remembered. The untimely death of Fr Mahesh is great loss for family and society at large, he said.

In behalf of Shirva parishioners, Wilson Rodrigues member of finance committee of the church paid rich tribute to Fr. Mahesh. On behalf of family Austin Barboza delivered the condolences messages.

Very Rev Fr. Denis D’Sa at the end proposed vote of thanks. As a mark of respect, different representatives of various institutions lay garlands over the remains of the deceased Fr Mahesh D’Souza.

Since 10am after arrival of mortal remains, thousands of people paid their last respect to deceased Fr. Mahesh D’Souza.

Local MLA Lalaji Mendon, former MLA and minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLAs U R Sabhapathy and J R Lobo, Alvas Education Society Chairman Dr. Mohan Alva, Udupi district BJP President Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, Secretary Kuthyaru Naveen Shetty, Kaup Thasildar Mohammed Isaac, Shirva Police Station SI Adbul Khader, Mathew C Ninan Director of Little Rock School, Brahmavar, Katheeb of local masjid, Gram panchayat president, and members, Shirva Jamayath Committee members,Syrian Catholic priests paid their last respects to Fr. Mahesh D’Souza.

Since morning 10am, thousands of people paid their last respects to deceased Fr. Mahesh D’Souza. The funeral mass was started at 3pm and cremation held at Shirva church cemetery.
