Udupi : The Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Brahmavar under the jurisdiction of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga is organizing two days “Krishimela” on 19^th and 20^th October, 2019 in collaboration with Agricultural  Diploma College, Brahmavar,  Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Ullal, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Brahmavar and Mangalore and line Departments namely Agriculture Department, Udupi, Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Cochin,  Canara Bank, Brahmavar, District Krishik Samaja, Udupi and Mangalore and SKDRDP, Udupi. The programme is co-sponsored by  Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries and Forestry Departments of  Udupi District.

Speaking to media persons in Udupi Press Club during the press meet on Thursday, October 17, Dr. S. U. Patil, Associate Director of Research ZAHRS, Brahmavar said that the main objective of this Mela is the transfer of latest agricultural technologies through demonstrations, discussions, field visits, Seminars cum interactions of Scientists with Farmers at the Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station.  In total the programme is referred as the fest of farmers wherein it  provides the platform  specifically for the farmers to get aware of  the advances  in agriculture,  production technologies and solutions for their field problems.

The Mela will be  inaugurated by Hon’ble  Deputy Chief Minsiter and Agricultural Minister Sri  Lakshman Savadi.  The Agricultural Exhibition  will be  inaugurated by  Sri.  Basavaraj Bommai, Home Minster  and District Incharge Minister.  The newly released  rice variety  Sahyadri  Panchamukhi will be released  by Sri Kota Srinvivasa Poojary, Minister for Mujarai, Fisheries, Shipyard and Inland transport. The programme is to be presided over by Sri. Raghupathi Bhat, MLA, Udupi Constituency, Dr. M.K. Naik, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAHS, Shivamogga. Ms. Shobha Karandlaje, Honble Member of Parliament, Udupi – Chikmagalore Constituency, Sri Dinakara Babu, Hon’ble President, and Smt. Sheela K. Shetty, Vice President, Zilla Panchayat, Udupi  along with the officers and Members of Board of Management, UAHS, Shivamogga and other  dignitaries  of  Public life are all expected to participate  in the inaugural programme of Krishimela-2019 on 19.10.2019 at 10:30 am

During Krishimela, we have also arranged Seminars on “Cultivation of Cashew and other Plantation Crops” on the first day. On the second day  seminars  on “Profitable integrated farming systems”, “Soil and Water conservation and Zero Budget Natural Farming”  and  “Hi-Tech Horticulture” have been arranged. The above seminars are to be delivered by the Eminent Scientists of UAHS, Shivamogga and other elite Institutes and Progressive Farmers.  During Krishimela, provision is made for the farmers to interact with Scientists freely and to get solutions  for their field problems.

            As a part of Krishimela, an exhibition to showcase the advances and modern technologies in agriculture and other related enterprises  is also  arranged.  About 150 enterprises in agriculture are expected to participate  in this  exhibition.  The organizers  are requesting  the farmers to participate in huge numbers and avail the benefits of this Krishimela.
