Udupi : We have still long demanding work to be solved. Being a people’s representative we have certain responsibilities. Among one is Brahmavar Cooperative Sugar Factory, said Raghupathy Bhat local MLA.
In his inaugural address during the Krishi Mela at Brahmavar, Raghupathy Bhat said that efforts were on to revive the ailing Brahmavar Cooperative Sugar Factory by leasing it to a private entity. It was closed for the operation due to some technical reasons in 2004.
Bhat said that the Chairman of the Brahmavar Sugar Factory and himself had recently met officials of the Sugar Ministry in Bengaluru. They had sought funds from the state government for the revival of the Sugar Factory. But the officials had made it clear that the government had decided to lease ailing sugar factories in the state for private parties through tenders.
Raghupathy Bhat said that the first stage of Varahi Irrigation Project had been implemented. Within two or three years Varahi Irrigation Project water can available to Udupi. Hence, thereafter Varahi water will available for sugarcane cultivation in the district.
Bhat said that our objectives is to save the sugar factory in order to help the farmers as well as for the people of the district.
