Udupi: District Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has instructed District Food Safety Officers to take strict action against the use of chemicals in food products manufactured by bakery and food manufacturing firms in the district.

He was speaking at a district-level Food Security Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

DC directed that Food Product of manufacturing firms in the manufacturing of food samples from the mandatory scrutiny has to be done. The food manufacturing units should be very clean and ingredients should be healthy. DC, which has recommended that food safety officials remove large numbers of samples, should be more vigilant. Ensuring adequate implementation of the Food Safety Act, the use of chemicals on all food items, fruits and vegetables used daily, would have a negative impact on the health of the people, the DC said.

The District Collector Jagdeesha suggested that the licensed food manufacturing companies follow all safety measures and check the quality of the fried oil used by the roadside vendors.

District Panchayat CEO Preeti Gehloth, Additional District Collector Sadashiva Prabhu and District Surgeon Dr. Madhusudan Nayak, District Surveyor, Dr. Dr. Vasudev, District Tuberculosis Officer Chidananda Sanju, Food Safety Officer Venkatesh, Health Department and various department officials were present.
