Udupi: Plastics are an integral part of our lives. It is impossible to imagine life without plastic, and we have the problem of preventing the effects of plastic. Padmashree Award recipient  Dr R. Vasudevan, said that instead of treating plastic as a waste, it is a resource that can be used as a resource, Vasudevan said.

He was speaking at a road construction workshop on plastic waste disposed of by the District Panchayat and Panchayat Raj Engineering Division at the District Panchayat Hall on Tuesday, December 10.

We have found success in recycling plastic materials, with the goal of not just plastering, but planning. Plastic tar roads can be constructed from single use plastic materials that we throw away. These roads, which have not been maintained for ten years, are also less expensive. We need 100 lakh tonnes of plastic to build completely plastic tar roads in the country, but we only have 10 lakh tonnes of plastic. 1 km of plastic to 1 km road can be built. 1 lakh km of plastic tar road has been built in 11 states so far. Pothole is not a problem on plastically constructed roads, the road built in Mumbai can be used in the event of heavy rains. Plastone can be made using concrete and plastic waste that is available when the buildings are demolished, and low-cost, durable buildings can be built. Thermocouple can be used as a quick remedy for closing road buttons. The fact that there is no harm to the environment from plastic recycling is scientifically proven, he said.

Inaugurating the workshop, District Panchayat President Dinakar Babu said Udupi district, which is No. 1 in everything, has fallen behind in recycling plastic. The idea of building a road using plastic waste was conceived to protect against the effects of plastic. Officers and engineers involved in road construction should take advantage of the workshop and make a good plan. He wanted the project to be successful with the cooperation of all.

District Collector G. Jagadisha said that plastic tar roads have already been practically built in many states. Ecological damage can be avoided by recycling plastic waste. Officers should implement the plan by adopting the information obtained from the worker. When he was the Municipal Commissioner of Mysore, 10 roads were constructed using plastic, one or two roads and the project was abandoned, rather than a continuous process. Engineers are working on S.R. As there is no cost to plastic in the price list, there is no need to take up this project and the public should take action to protect the environment by reducing the use of plastic as much as possible.

District Panchayat Vice President Sheela .K. Shetty, District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Preethi Gehlot, Education and Health Standing Committee Chairman Pratap Hegde Marali, District Panchayat Deputy Secretary Kiran Padnekar and Assistant Professor of Thyagaraja College, Madurai Ramalingam Chandrasekhar were present.

Chief Executive Officer Srinivas Rao welcomed the gathering and PDO Mahesh presented vote of thanks.
